Best time to have a wedding at the park?

Jennifer, on April 20, 2013 at 10:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 4

We're having reception under a pavilion in the park. Not sure what time we should do it. It will be sandwiches and burgers/chicken etc. Like a bbq theme. Should this be something more aimed towards the lunch time meal? Especially since we're not doing alcohol now or dancing, I think it will be over fairly shortly. So shouldn't we have it sooner in the day so guests can do their normal Saturday night routine?

If there's not gonna be alcohol or dancing, I would make it during the day, then maybe(just a thought) create an after party that does include those 2 things. Or just the reception itself & dont have it go too long, or guests could get antsy or bored with no dancing or booze to entertain.

Also, it depends on the pavilion, is there lighting? Parks can get awefully dark at night if there's not adequate lighting.

Definitely during the day, maybe noon to 3 or something?

I agree, early afternoon is best. But my reasoning has nothing to do with the party, and more with the BUGS. Gnats & mosquitoes are super annoying, and they usually show up during early evening hours.

I'm having a picnic/bbq wedding, too. The ceremony will be held around 1 or 2 pm. Our reception will include alcohol and dancing, though, and we have to be cleared out by 10 pm so I wanted to provide plenty of time for that.
