Best day of the week for destination wedding?

Helena, on June 6, 2018 at 9:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi ladies,

We are going to have a wedding in Maui and all of our guests will fly either from mainland or overseas. For those who had a destination wedding, which day of the week did you have your wedding? I was thinking to have my wedding on a Friday, so they can rest on Saturday and fly home on Sunday. Any experience with picking the day to share? Smiley smile

Hi Helena! I think your plan sounds perfect; this is typically what most people do. Just make sure people remember to fly in on Thursday! Ha. They will have a blast and then be able to kick back and enjoy some Maui sun, while also getting rest in preparation to go home, awesome! I hope everything works out! Good luck!

We are doing a DW in Maui as well and hired a great planner. I would consider the time of year you’re getting married as well when picking a day. We went with a Friday wedding. Most people are flying in Wednesday and heading home Sunday. Good luck !!

We did a Monday night because Mon-Thur was significantly cheaper for a wedding. The resort room rates doubled on weekends (so did most hotels in the area) so we thought if anyone wanted to stay longer they could get great weekday rates. We only had 15 guests (1/2 retired family) so we checked everyone's schedule first to make sure they would go. All said yes! We enjoyed a min-moon during the week which was heavenly...we saved money and very few tourists mid-week, off-season. A weekend is good for people's work schedules but if the hotel is crazy expensive on weekends, they might not make it.

P.S. We had a welcome dinner Sunday night because most people came in that morning.

We're having a DW and we also attended one in February. Both Monday ceremonies. We have an elopement package so we were limited to weekdays but with everyone traveling it wasn't really an issue. We're flying in Thursday, but most people are coming in Saturday, golfing/getting nails done Sunday and ceremony Monday.

    You’re welcome! How fun.

Did you check with your guests to see realistically if they can go? Another bride here sent invites to 100 guests who said they wanted to go to Jamaica I think but when it came down to it, only looks like 20 will attend. DWs are very expensive for guests (and I don’t think flights are cheap to Hawaii?). I don’t want to dissuade you but something to think about.

Wow. Surprised to see other Monday weddings. Figured for a weekday wedding folks would choose Thur. Interesting!

I would do Saturday, for sure, for destination wedding or regular wedding at home. Usually guests fly in the day before if they can, so that way they wouldn't have to take off Thursday & Friday for work, just part of Friday. If guests want to extend their vacation, they can choose to do so and fly in earlier in the week!
