Belated reception ideas

Molly, on July 2, 2017 at 11:03 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

My fiance and I are planning a beach wedding in florida with just immidiate family and we're planning on doing a reception kind of party at home, in illinois, about 2-3 weeks later. We want it to be relaxed and not really like your typical reception (no wedding dress, bouquet toss, daddy/daughter, mother/son dances etc) we want dancing, drinking, food and good times. We dont want to shell out an arm and a leg for a party so the standard wedding banquet halls are out, and we don't want to do it at either of our parents houses because our mothers would spend the whole year cleaning....so I need place ideas, and any other cool fun things to do at the reception, any decoration ideas (should we even do decorations??) Should it be more of an open house or set times? I've never planning a regular wedding and there's even less online advice for the non-traditional weddings so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Annnnnd Go!

Look at your local VFWs, American Legions, Fire Halls, etc. Hire a good DJ and get a good caterer. I would do stations/buffet style since you're doing a more casual atmosphere so people can eat at their leisure. Get a cake to cut. For decorations, think more regular party than wedding -- tablecloths on the tables, simple centerpieces, maybe a "congratulations" banner. A photo booth would be fun if you can find one for a good deal. You could have it go from 4-9pm or something like that. It would be more like a regular party where people will arrive around 4-4:30pm and stay until they like.

What are you doing after the ceremony? Are you hosting a reception for the people who are coming to see you get married?

You could have it at a pub or restaurant.

JessieJV we will probably go to a restaurant or the hotel and all hangout together. We haven't gotten that far in the planning yet!

Annakay, those are some great ideas! Thank you!

How many people are you planning for? Find a nice restaurant to host your guests.
