Beaded Wedding dress discomfort

Lindsey, on March 13, 2021 at 7:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Has anyone experienced the beading on their dress irritating their arms/under arm area? Mine arrived at the bridal salon and when I put it on the material felt rough and the beading was rubbing. My only thought now is in August when I go for my first alterations appointment is to ask them to remove beading but that seems so wasteful. Or should I buy a cheaper flowy dress online for the reception.

Yes that is very common with beads and sequins. Surprised that wasn't noticeable when you tried it on in the store. The accents should not be that close to the sensitive armpit area. If you love the dress, ask the seamstress to remove the beads. You hopefully only get married once so you will only get to wear the dress once in your life..so wear it until the end of the reception. Especially since wedding dresses are not inexpensive.

I’d see what your seamstress can do before you go & buy another dress.

Definitely talk to your seamstress. Could be the bodice is just not fitted properly yet. My dress was entirely beaded and I never had any arm irritation, and I have SUPER sensitive skin.

I tried on a beaded dress and expressed the same issue with the dress. The seamstress at the bridal salon suggested that she could put a mesh panel on either side under the arms to avoid having the beading under my arms. I ultimately went with a different dress because my son will be 6 months old and I don’t want his arms and legs getting irritated by a beaded dress. There are options so I would ask what can be done before buying a new dress.

Thank you all for your input. I wouldn’t buy another “wedding dress” but some form of a white or blush dress that’s under $150. It’s crazy how much different my new dress fits and feels compared to the sample.

I had that issue but once the dress was properly fitted it didn't bother me at all. I will say the only complaint I had about my dress (it was beaded head to toe) was that my veil kept sticking to the straps. It didn't bother me enough to complain though, the veil was only on for the ceremony and portraits, I took it off for the reception.

My seamstress is opening my dress up a little under the armpit. I've also read that something can be put over the beading in that area so it doesn't rub

Awesome! Good to know! I was thinking of asking about letting it out a bit under the arm area!
