Beach Wedding Advice/ideas

Jaycie, on July 8, 2020 at 8:06 PM Posted in Planning 2 11

As I begin to plan a beach wedding, I was wondering if anyone had any advice? I have always dreamed of a beach wedding, and I hope to live on or near a beach one day. (I grew up in the desert.) For example, is an isle runner worth it or is it better to walk down the isle with your toes in the sand? Is there anything anyone wishes they would have known or planned for regarding a beach wedding? I'm also open to any fun ideas you may have come across. Thank you!

Do not wear a dress with tulle as it will pick up sand. Use air brush make up and choose a time of the year when not as hot and humid which is a huge problem in Florida. Oh and plan for a rain site which is the same for any outdoor wedding.

Not sure where you live but if you can find a venue with beach front and then an inside for the reception I’d recommend having the reception indoors and the ceremony on the beach with the option of having people walk on the beach if they choose during the reception. Beach ceremonies are beautiful but if you catch it on a windy day, sand will for sure end up on plates. Also things like bathrooms can sometimes be tricky because most beaches won’t allow portable restrooms.

There may be bugs (I’ve been eaten alive and the kids were crying while the wedding party kept sneaking away to borrow my bug spray when the bride wasn’t looking). Storms and wind can come and go quickly so be careful about music/equipment. Decor can blow away easily and arch/seating/tents need to be secure. Random people can walk in the background of your photos. I didn’t do a beach wedding bc my hair gets so frizzy. Just things to think about.

Will have a wedding in Hawaii, in a couple weeks. I didn’t get a beach-y dress as I thought because I fell in love with mine. I love half up do or down but the wind might be too strong? I don’t know. Will have a trial in 2 weeks, and will go outdoor for pictures hours later to see how my hair is holding up. I had an injury because of sharp shell on a sandy beach once, so no barefoot for me. Not in my wedding. I got espadrilles for easy walking for the beach ceremony, but will wear heels before and after. Sunscreen! No drink after bfast for me, because the beach is 40 minutes drive away from the hotel. Choose morning or later afternoon hours if you can, to avoid the heat. Carry eye drops in case someone got sand in eye! Apparently is a common thing for guests who sits on chairs or pillows on sand. Talk with your venue what if it rains on your time.

Having gotten married on the beach myself this is great advice. We actually had a few elderly that weekend not able to walk into hr beach so having our venue right on the beach allows them to watch from the terrace. I would also say to go with airbrush makeup, consider the wind if you choose a veil and barefoot is definitely the way to go.....it’s hard to walk in the sand. Also make sure that the beach is not used by lots of people during the time you are getting married (this was something I didn’t think about and my pictures turned out terrible because people were in the background).

Also great advice from you. Having lived on the beach my whole life I can vouch haha especially about the random passerbyers.

I definitely like the idea of going barefoot! I have never used airbrush makeup. Do you have any suggestions? Considering other beach goers in the background is good to think about. That actually happened when my fiance proposed on the beach! They were very supportive though, haha.

I'm sadly from a landlocked state. My goal is to move somewhere near the beach because it has always been my happy place. I can agree with your point about the reception. Nobody wants sandy food! Bathrooms can also be tricky with outdoor venues. I almost forgot about that!

Sunscreen is definitely a must! I didn't think about eye drops. That will be something good to keep on hand.

I booked a beach wedding for Summer 2021. We booked somewhere with a beach ceremony, with a plan B of a Pier Ceremony if it is too windy for the beach, and Plan C of indoors if it unfortunately is raining. We wanted a venue that would take car of all the contingencies. Haven't gotten as far as planning the hair and makeup, so thanks all for the tips!
