Beach house wedding??

Jami, on October 11, 2017 at 8:08 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

My dream has always been to get married on the beach. Now that I'm engaged I really need to start getting some ideas!! Recently I had the idea to rent a big house right on the beach and have the wedding/reception there. There will be anywhere from 80-150 people, so not sure if there will be enough space. Because I live in Florida, rain is a possibility, so if that were to happen, i need to make sure everyone would be comfortable inside the house. Has anyone done this before and have any tips or concerns? Thank you in advance!

There's the Harbour House Oceanfront which is a beach house, I think it only holds like 125 though.

There are a bunch of nice hotels basically everywhere that offer beach weddings and rain back up plans. St. Augustine has some options, The Hilton, Crowne Plaza and Double tree all do ceremonies on the beach with indoor receptions. One of them has off the beach outdoor reception option but I forgot which one.

Mansion at Tuckahoe in Stuart is a private residence that is available for event rentals.

I'm actually on my way to a venue tour, for a beach wedding. Lol

150 might be tough for a house. When looking at venue capacity, take into account whether everyone can fit into one room. Houses and mansions sometimes have a series of smaller rooms for events instead of one big room, which is not great for a wedding.

I got married on the beach. What do you mean by private? There were no real on lookers at out wedding but of course, there were people at the venue. For example, we had out reception on an outdoor covered veranda so hotel guests could hear the music and were dancing on their balconies lol.

The big plus of an actual venue and not a house is the weather backups. We had about 3 depending on what kind of weather we got. We knew that no matter what we'd be covered and that peace of mind was everything.

Just a little bit of a cautionary tale with renting a house. My FH and I had our original plan to be a beautiful house rental where everyone could stay with us, we would get married and have a caterer and other vendors come in. We rented a house through a reputable rental agency eight months in advance, and then four months before the wedding the house we had rented was sold. We got our money back, but we then had four months to scramble and find a new venue.

It worked out really well for me because I was having an intimate wedding (20 people) and am in an off-season time, but it was one of the most stressful times of my life trying to find a new venue with four months to go.

I'm planning a beach wedding also. I'm in NC, we found a house which they say can accommodate 150, but I wonder about reception space. So we are looking into resort styles that have reception space and in case of whether we can move inside. We were of doing it in Florida but decided to look here. I saw a lot of places in Florida that are beautiful.
