BBQ Style Reception

Ms2MRS, on April 5, 2016 at 3:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

I must admit the wedding planning has been stressful (simply BC i can't decide on exactly what i want). We have cut down on our guest list and would should very well fall under 200.. YAY. However, we are planning to cut cost on food amongst other things . Along with the wedding cake a close friend will be baking old traditional southern desserts. Mini Strawberry cobblers, cheesecakes, mini sweet potato pies, etc. The plan is to have a fun, relaxed and party feel during our reception. I hate attending weddings and the receptions were you feel that you have to sit straight not cough or anything. Would it be bad to serve BBQ style food? With the pricing we're looking at no more than $15.00 pp.

Any success or horror stories from past events?

A lot of people do BBQ catering for wedding.

I would cut your list again, you shouldn't cut your food budget, it is already EXTREMELY LOW.

The last wedding I went to had barbecue and everyone liked it. I think it's pretty common to do it now.

BBQ is delicious, and perfect for a more relaxed, fun wedding. I would be so happy with BBQ- it's my favorite! We are doing that for our rehearsal dinner Smiley smile

Sounds yummy, love the mini dessert idea too. I would cut the list down some more and raise the per person food budget. If you get some really good BBQ you don't want anyone fighting over the last rib. LOL! The two things all your guests are going to remember/talk about are your dress and the food!

The last 2 weddings we went to served BBQ. One was pretty formal, and the other was rustic but in a really nice (non redneck) setting. It was a hit. We live in TX so of course it's a fav. We looked into it and found it to be 11-12 per person. We have decided to do Italian thought because we found a great place at a slightly better price.

I love BBQ! I've been to weddings where it went over great. The only thing I'd keep in mind is matching your wedding "style". BBQ at a barn wedding? Awesome! BBQ in a formal ballroom? Weird.

I think bbq is fine if it matches the venue. Outdoors, laid back ect

We are having a formal wedding and considering BBQ for our food. We will have a carving station and will set it up a little more formally than a backyard BBQ. BBQ is always a good idea in my opinion.

$15/pp is super low. You can barely get a meal out at a nice restaurant for that much. Cut your guest list more (I promise, you can, unless you have 200 close friends).

Barbecue is a great idea and always delicious!

I LOVE BBQ! It has the advantage of being super tasty and super affordable. Go for it!!!

I had it at mine and everyone LOVED it. Especially the Canadian guests!

At home if you say BBQ, its hamburgers and hot dogs in the backyard. lol

BBQ Catering is the most affordable option around. The most pp is $17. The menu so far is : Meat can be Turkey BBQ and Fried Chicken or Bake BBQ Chicken $12.99

    2 Sides (Vegetables)

Includes Lemonade or Sweet Tea (can be both, depends on quantity). The venue has an outdoor ceremony option and a indoor reception.

BBQ is very popular for receptions these days, as long as you aren't having a super-formal wedding. It's a great affordable catering option. We had BBQ at ours, and everyone loved it!

We did BBQ. It was AMAZING. Guests raved about our food. The caterer was full service buffet as well. It was a wonderful value at $16/pp. Here's what we served:

    - 2 Appetizers (I attached pics of our apps).

Smoked salmon on crostini with remoulade

Smoked tomato caprese on small skewers

    Main Course

    Pulled Pork

    1/4 smoked chicken

    Stuffed Portabella Mushrooms (vegan option)

    Sides

    Cowboy Beans

    Grilled Seasonal Veggie Mix

    -LBC Signature Bourbon BBQ Sauce

-Freshly Baked Rolls (these were HUGE and amazing!)

Instead of going through the caterer for drinks, we set up a drink station beside the bar. We had sweet tea, unsweet tea, apple cider, and water. The drinks probably cost around $200-300? I can't remember the exact cost.

We are doing BBQ and I'm so excited. One of our sides is sausages with mustard. Smiley laugh Ours is large as well, 200 and I think it will be tasty and easy (and I know it is the less expensive of our options).
