Battle of the Lamest RSVP Excuses

I just sent out emails to all of the people that did not RSVP by our due date. I'm cracking up at the lame excuses. My two lamest so far: 1) "I have a doctor's appointment that I can't reschedule". I just sent out emails to all of the people that did not RSVP by our due date. I'm cracking up at the lame excuses.

My two lamest so far:

1) "I have a doctor's appointment that I can't reschedule". My wedding is in the evening on a Saturday and we sent out Save the Dates 9 months ago.

2) From my friend that is a world traveler- "I'm currently doing a yoga retreat in Mexico, but I have been advised to avoid all unnecessary travel due to my back pain". A few sentences later in the email. "I am likely headed off to Peru for another yoga retreat later this month". I guess that's considered necessary travel?

I'm in no way mad or surprised, but It would have been so much easier to just check the no box and drop the RSVP in the mail.

Share your best "politely declines".

I think dry weddings are horribly boring but I would never throw a fit about it. I just leave a bottle in the car and excuse myself frequently.

I never really thought about horrible excuses as to why someone can't go to my wedding! Some of these stories crack me up though. I feel like most people will use the fact that our wedding is on a Friday if they don't want to go.

I've gotten a couple from extended family: my great uncle has his only grand daughters birthday to go to and a great aunt is going to canada for vacation with her husband. other than that, it's just a lot of people declining due to distance

Only 1 negative RSVP from FH brother whom I have never met. He is estranged from the rest of the family but talks to FH. His excuse: His wife doesn't want to meet me? WTF did I ever do to someone I have never even met? Oh I know the rest of his family that's enough of a reason to her.

The only one that surprised me at all was my grandfather, who said he wouldn't be there, a year in advance, when he and his wife travel a lot. Really, Grandpa? So mad at dad you can't set it aside for one day to see your first grandchild get married? Luckily, I had so many people there the day of, he didn't even cross my mind!

I just sent my invitations out, so I'm waiting to hear some good decline stories. However, I did try to get one step ahead of the excuses. My RSVPs have four choices:

    Gladly attend

    Regretfully decline

    Resentfully attend

    Enthusiastically decline

My mom hates them. FH and I think they're clever. I just can't wait to see how many of each we get!

One of FH's aunts said she & her husband weren't coming because it's the same weekend as their anniversary trip. Keep in mind, we sent STDs in October, her anniversary is in June, and our wedding is in August. Whatever.

The funniest RSVP I got was actually an acceptance with the people indicated as 3 1/2!!!!!! Hahaha it was my Fg's family and her brother was not quite 1 year old so I guess he was counted as half of a person LOL. I did not even count him for the catering count.

Is it bad that I'm still bitter about the family who decided last minute that the 'county fair' was more important than the 4 they RSVP'd with?

    1.5 years. Still annoyed.

Our RSVP deadline is Sunday and we've only heard from 46 out of 125 guests. So I'm anticipating quite a few interesting excuses when we follow up with people next week.

When we sent out save the dates we got a message saying they couldn't travel that far because their cat gets car sick.

My DH's aunt returned the RSVP card. On it, she had selected and crossed out both the "accept" and "decline" options a few times!!! It was like she literally couldn't make up her mind. Then, she sent us a two page typed letter (single spaced), which gave us detailed explanation as to why she both could and could not attend. We laughed our faces off!! Thank God for the last line: "So sorry we won't be there!" Wish she would have just written that the first time! : P

Hey date twin Shelby_Erin26. I have not sent mine out yet but when I sent the STD, my Aunt posted on my FB page "This is my RSVP". I was like, yeah let me write that down now... in February. I guess early is better than not at all.

My uncle declined because he claimed he paid $4k to one of those IRS call scams and couldn't afford to come... Ok....

I will say on the doctor bit that I currently have an MRI scheduled for 8:30 on a friday and they do weekends too. Yes, they could be totally full of shit, but they could also be talking about something other than a checkup. Really if someone other than my closest friends or family asked me about it I would likely just say it was a "doctors appt" because it's none of their business exactly what is going on.

I had two separate couples tell me they were going out of town (one to visit their son and one to run a race) yet both were posting (locally) on Facebook. Why bother lying? Another declined at first because he had a gig, then changed his mind and said they'd be able to come before the show, then never showed up.
