Bar Question

Kaysey, on February 11, 2020 at 10:45 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

I'm in the process of securing our alcohol order for our wedding. My FH and I are going through Total Wine for our wedding b/c we are able to return any unopened and unchilled bottles after the wedding. Here is my situation; the price is not an issue, as we have budgeted more than enough for our bar. We currently have an extensive alcohol list with different brands of liquor - we already have our beer and have purchased our wine so we only have liquor and mixers left, along with the non-alcoholic beverages we are having but those we will get at Costco. We plan on doing a full open bar for our guests b/c we do not want them to have to pay for anything. To make it easier on our bartender I was thinking about the possibility of creating a menu for the bar to put on our tables, and of course to post at the bar for drink suggestions for our guests. If our guests want a combination or another drink that is not listed on the menu, they can still order it, I just wanted to make sure that our guests know what we have at the bar.

Do you think it's a good idea to create a menu, or should I just make a list of the liquor, beer, wine and other non-alcoholic beverages to post at the bar and/or on the tables? Or, should I do nothing at all?

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. I'm meeting with our bartender tomorrow so I wanted to make sure I have a menu ready for her just in case I go that route.

Thanks!

It would help if the bartender had a table behind him displaying which liquor is on hand so that people don't have to ask. I have always LOVED the idea of personalized cocktails at a wedding, so one that's you, one that's him, one that's your pets, etc. LOL. It would be easy enough to create a quick document with the drinks. If you DO create a menu, you'll have to make sure you have more of whatever is going into those particular drinks. So like, more grenadine and vodka if that's a signature drink, but other than that, I don't see any problems.

I was thinking about displaying my favorite drink and my FH's favorite drink on the menu and then listing what else we have underneath our "go-to drinks". I just want to make sure our bartender is comfortable with all of the options we will have. We're literally buying everything, lol. My FH knows more about alcohol than I do so making the list was his job. I'm just in charge of ordering, lol.

Whoops. I meant to reply to you instead of replying to myself, lol

I wouldn’t do a full menu, because people always order their usuals anyway. I would do the cute signature drink of your and FH favorites. I would have a list of what alcohols and juices/soda are available and people who drink will know what to order from there. The bartender will get less questions of can you make this is they already know what ingredients he has, but a full menu of options isn’t necessary. Good luck!

Thank you! That's what I'm leaning towards doing. Do you think I should make menus for the tables, or just have it posted at the bar?

Ah ok! Well, I think that the bartender is hopefully a professional. LOL. And they should know how to mix myriad drinks. In case they don't, the Internet is here to save the day! So I agree with Megan, you can do the signature drinks and make sure you have plenty of those ingredients on hand, and then list the other beverages you have beneath those so that people know they can order other items, too. When I go to parties with signature drinks, I always try at least one of them and then order my regular stuff later if I didn't like those drinks.

I just have the drinks posted it at the bar. Cheaper and easier to only make one sign. if they want a drink they will go to the bar to do so. Having menus at all the tables where some people don’t drink they don’t care and it’s not needed.

That makes more sense. I don't want to clutter up the tables. Thank you!

Lol, I think our bartender will be fine. She came highly recommended from a friend who uses her at her venue for parties and weddings. I just want to make sure our guests know what options we have so she can make the drinks they want. Smiley smile

We're 100% going to do my FH and I's favorite drinks on the list and I might try to talk my FH into coming up with signature drinks that go with our theme.
