Bar packages??

FH and I cannot come to an agreement on our bar package. Neither of us drinks much. Our families have varying opinions. We're planning on having 200 guests (ages mid 20s-late 60s). (Most of the discussion is whether it's worth putting the other $400 into our house fund or if it's worth splurging for our guests since we've saved in other areas and are fairly under budget)

I think you have really decent options under the select option. I would go with that and put the extra money towards that house fund!

I would absolutely double check that these prices are per person for the 5.5 hours. These sound more like per/drink prices or per hour prices. How is it possible to have an open bar for that long of a time for $8 p/person? My venue charges $11/drink for premium bar.

I agree that I would check to make 100% sure that those are total per person not per person per hour. First reason being those are crazy low prices as everyone said. Second, in your picture of the whole package it says it's $1.00 pp for a champagne toast. It seems expensive for just one glass of champagne (probably not even a full one) compared to entire 5.5 hours of an open bar. You just don't want to be surprised. But if those are in fact the prices I AM JEALOUS!! hahaha I'm not a liquor person so I'd probably go with the cheaper option since most of my guests are beer/wine people as well.

Premium since it's not a big price difference plus I prefer the choices on premium. I wouldn't pass up the other ones either if those were the choices. Premium seems more classy. But if you decide the other option it will still be fine

I think the select is perfectly alright. I dont think there is a need to go up to the next tier honestly.

I emailed our venue to make sure their response is in writing in case it becomes an issue down the line but looking at other venue pricing we received before we decided on this place, our venue's premium package is lining up with most of the other venues high tier selections but low-mid tier pricing. So as long as they don't come back with any crazy response, we'll definitely be upgrading the bar to premium.

@megan its Woodside Event Center if you want to look into them! They've been great so far.

Holy fuck my premium open bar was $55 pp.

Is that price per hour of open bar, or total? Either way, do the premium. $400 isn't really that much.

I'm dying of jealousy over those prices... Our consumption bar came to almost $10k for 220 people (~$45 per person) for only beer and wine.

I would totally do the premium, because I love Tanqueray and Tito's.

By no means did we go with the ~fanciest~ venue we looked at but we chose the nicest venue we could affordably host our guests at. We're probably looking at $15k for all of our food and alcohol. I'd love to know where you're all getting married to compare regions on all this pricing since it sounds like Ohio is crazy low!

Whoa! Those prices are a bargain! That's happy hour prices where I am. Definitely take advantage of it.

I would go for the 1st option. You're fulfilling your duty to provide alcohol free-of-charge to your guests. Top shelf is not a requirement.

NE Ohio is nice. Our premium bar package was ~$16 per person. Our 215 person reception was around 17K for venue including cocktail hour with hot appetizers, dinner, and late snack.

I'd go with premium for Bulleit alone, I'm a Manhatten guy.

    1. Those prices are awesome (if it isn't per drink), but even then.... 2. I would prefer the premium mostly due to the whiskey/bourbon they have for each. As a whiskey drinker, I wouldn't put black velvet in anything, especially my go to drink - a manhattan. But truthfully you can do either. I would splurge the extra $400.00 here, but food, booze & music were our big items.

Not to beat a dead horse, but you want the bar package exactly detailed in your contract and signed by the management.

XX amount of $$ per person, for XX hours, which includes bartenders, all liquor and mixers, glassware and garnishes. The bar will open at XX time and close at XX time.

Confirmed via email that it is $5/$7 per person for the full time the bar is open during our reception (5.5 hours out of our 6 hour reception, last call at 11:30). Which is actually 5:30ish to 11:30 because they are also including the gap between the end of our ceremony (ceremony starts at 5pm at same venue) and the beginning of our cocktail hour (6pm) since we're hosting both events there.

Thanks @celia. I believe that was all outlined since they were originally including the bartenders/wash/glassware/garnishes/mixers and we only had to provide the actual alcohol before they started providing the alcohol themselves but I'm going to double check our contract and have them add the specifics if they aren't there already. And at minimum, have them add the alcohol cost per head and sign it.

Oh my lord, those prices are amazing! While I would prefer the premium options, the select is good too - and I doubt anyone would complain given there's an open bar!
