Kristen, on January 16, 2018 at 10:32 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20

Hey yall,

Anyone have experiences with a wedding cake from Walmart? Did you do sheet cake or a layered cake? I'd love to know any experiences you have had! Good/Bad/Ugly!?

I've never thought to get a wedding cake from Walmart but they do have pretty good birthday cakes. Sorry I'm not very helpful Smiley ups

Yea! I don't hate walmart's cakes - it seems like it would certainly be cheaper than other quotes I've received ($540 for a 3 layer cake to feed 90)

Not sure about Walmart, but I know Sam's Club has some good cakes and they are reasonable price wise.

Plus 1 for Sams Club and BJ's too. They do such a good job on cakes and they have tier cakes as well for a VERY affordable price. I would definitely look at those two for a budget friendly cake. I know I may choose this option as well myself.

I'm not sure where you live, but if you have a Food City, Kroger, or Ingles near you they also make great cakes! I can't speak for wedding cakes but their birthday cakes are really good.

Sam's all the way. And don't worry about where your cake is from. Not like it comes with a tag. Who's gonna know and f them for caring! LOL.

If you are not dead set on a tiered wedding cake, I would think about getting a small cutting cake (8") from a local bakery and getting sheet cakes from Costco (if you have one) they are AMAZING and feed a bunch for a small price!

It's common in my town to get sheet cakes from one of our local stores (small town, nearest decent bakery is 2+hours away). I hear Costco is a better deal, though. Something about an underpaid and unhappy Wal-Mart worker making a special cake just doesn't sit right with me...

If you're looking to save money, but still want the wedding cake look, I know it's not uncommon to get a little cake for the bride and groom (and maybe their wedding party) that is a little more dressed up and guests are served sheet cake (usually hidden in the back or precut). Just a suggestion, I didn't really read through commented much Smiley atonished

You could always do a small cake to cut, and do sheet cakes to serve. it would cut costs even lower if you did Walmart cakes. they dont have bad cakes so i feel like it could be doable, though i have no experience in them outside of like... baby showers or birthday parties. lol.

Hey !! My brother and his ex wife got their cake from Wal-Mart . . It was good .. I've also got many 2 tired birthday cakes from them to me it's overly sweet and doesn't have the bakery taste but I get complements in how good the cake tastes from other people .. I say if u want a nice cake for a small budget it's worth it .. after all who really remembers the cake

Here is a pick of the cake I’ve ordered from Walmart for my wedding this weekend. $150 serves 106.

Wow! That's an epic cake FutureMrsCook! I'm going to ask around to different places. We have publix and Wal-Mart here. But we're having the wedding in Florida so maybe they will have other grocery type stores. Thanks everyone for your input! I am considering a small cake to cut and a sheet cake from Wal-Mart or publix for guests.

OP I love your title! HAHA my FH and I got so discouraged the more we looked at our budget realistically. (we are paying off all little debts before the wedding and we still have to be able to afford to put much needed repairs into our house after so that we can sell and get moved before we had a kid.) We (meaning me as he was for this all along) decided to give up on a lot of expectations, as a big dream wedding was far less important to us than building a good future for ourselves. Since this decision, we have been just getting rid of so much stuff from the wedding plan. Providing food is expensive, whelp, lets just do cake and punch! Alcohol is expensive, whelp lets just have it at the church and go to a nice bar after. flowers are expensive, whelp we don't need them Smiley smile With this mind set, it was an easy decision to go with a Walmart cake.

Last September we had a walmart wedding cake for my daughter’s wedding. It was gorgeous and delicious. We chose white cake with raspberry cream filling and off white buttercream frosting. It was 3 tiers. We added our own fresh flowers. I think it was around $130. It was one of the few bargains of the wedding expenses! It was the walmart in Sandy, Oregon. We ordered it two weeks in advance and picked it up the morning of the wedding. They have it packaged well for transport. We bought a chocolate cake filled with chocolate mousse in 1/2 sheet size (48 servings) for the grooms cake from Costco for $18.99 and decorated with strawberries dipped in chocolate. I’ll see if I can post pictures.

If you want something simple its a great idea! some of their designs seem a bit dated BUT a plain white cake with fresh flowers would be beautiful

I'm not getting my cake from Walmart, but I have seen their wedding cakes and they are beautiful. I can't say anything about the taste, though. Ask them if they can provide you with a sample to taste.
