Balancing school and wedding planning

I currently work full time, am going for my masters (done in December yay!), and am wedding planning. While it is definitely stressful at times, try and get as much big stuff knocked out as you can before your program starts! Then from there, little stuff will be a breeze over the course of a year!

My middle daughter was in grad school for her doctorate in nursing, had a 1 yr old, a 100+ year old home with a huge yard to take care of, and was working as an RN/Charge nurse in the ICU while planning her wedding. She still has a year left in her program and since the wedding (July 2018) she now has another new born. What helped her was choosing a venue that was pretty much all inclusive. She didn't do any DIY projects except for putting ribbons around the napkins for the reception and making the programs for her Catholic ceremony. Her wedding was beautiful, simple, and elegant. Personally I wouldn't put off marriage because of school. Life will always have it's challenges. Wedding planning can be as simple or complicated as you make it.

I worked full time & so did my husband, and we had no problem planning our wedding. I think it's pretty typical for brides and grooms to be in school, working full time, or at home full time with their kids combined with planning.

I’m currently in law school, working as a law clerk at a prosecutors office, and living long distance from my FH. I will be graduating 5 months after our wedding. I think it’s very manageable as long as you take things one at a time. I’m a huge planner, and I stick to my planner at all times so I’ve just scheduled what to do when. I also carry my wedding planner with me so that I can just write stuff down when I remember and plan it out later. The only thing that sucked was venue shopping because were getting married in Michigan (where everyone is) and I’m in Ohio. I had to FaceTime while he toured with my parents and as silly as it sounds but I felt left out. A lot of vendors have acted weird when they realize how far away our wedding is, but I don’t get out to Michigan often so when I’m there we’re cramming.

Hi! Congrats on your journey. I’m a full-time Director, full time phd student and planning a whole wedding. It’s possible. However, it’s about knowing yourself and time management. I split my days between school, work and wedding depending on my mood. Luckily, as a director, I have a lot of unsupervised office time so, I am able to have that luxury of doing school and wedding too. You can easily pick a few hours each night or a day that’s dedicated to all wedding while juggling with school. It’ll get hectic but leaning on your support system is best. Practicing self care and remembering that you don’t have to do it all by yourself (wedding planning) will always be a good help too. I wish you the best.

I was a first year cardiology fellow in a long distance relationship living across the country from my family during most of our 11 month engagement, so I did most of the key stuff (booking vendors, choosing colors and flowers, exchanging a million emails) myself. My partner helped as much as he could but didn’t live locally. It was a fair amount of work over the course of the year, but I honestly don’t understand what people find so time-consuming about wedding planning. If you have a full year, there is nothing that can’t be done in 10 hours per week— which is really not a huge time commitment. For my own sanity, in any week I worked more than 90 hours last year I pretty much put wedding planning on the back burner, then caught up in lighter weeks. I still got everything done in time.

If you can schedule a lighter course load in the week or two before and after the wedding, that’s great— but I definitely wouldn’t recommend putting your education on hold to plan a wedding!!

That said, I wasn’t an all out DIY bride so if you’re planning to make a lot of things for the wedding you should see if your family can help out. I used Etsy templates to make all the wedding stuff and it was fairly straightforward and easy.

I would plan as much as possible right now. It is best to book your vendors early anyway so your date is secured. That way, you only have small details to plan throughout 2020 when you're in school.

I agree with the previous PP you can do both and it's not unheard of to go into your first year of marriage in school. Its called life there will always be juggling careers, life, spouse, family, and yourself.

Do what's best for you and your FH ask him which one he suggest.
