H and I got back from our safari honeymoon in Kenya a week ago and I’ve finally sorted through my photos. A number of WW users have asked me to post a recap of our trip, so I’m going into detail here in case it’s helpful for anyone else thinking about a safari.

Our trip was just under two weeks and we saw three parks: we spent two nights at the Samburu National Reserve, one night at Lake Nakuru in the Rift Valley, and then three nights in the Masai Mara. From there, we flew to the coast and spent four days on a private island off the coast in the Indian Ocean.

This is going to be long, so skip ahead if you just want animal pictures!!

@BookcaseHat- I sponsor Kiko the giraffe at DSWT- any chances you have any pics of him? Not sure if he is at that location? I would die.

@Aimee - He is there but we didn't get any pictures!! There was a big crowd around his stall and we had to run to get to the airport so we weren't able to meet him. They did warn everyone about getting too close -- apparently he likes to head-butt people! He was adorable.

@BookcaseHat- I die anyway, even without pictures Smiley smile How awesome. And yes, he is a very "naughty" giraffe, apparently, lol.

Thanks for sharing these pics with us!

Amazing pictures and it looks like you had a wonderful trip! I have a question, my FH and I are vegan so we don't believe in going to zoos, aquariums, sea world, etc, and only visit animal sanctuaries. Were most of these places you went just observing nature? Were the animals in their natural environment with no fencing etc? Trying to figure out if this is something we can do that goes along with our ethics. Not judging at all, I'm glad you had a wonderful honeymoon! Smiley smile

Last one, just to prove H and I actually were there together! Here's me after a week of limited showering with no makeup. Lolz.

@Megan - Yes, the animals are in their natural habitat, but some parks are fenced. Lake Nakuru National Park is entirely fenced, but the other parks we went to are not. (In general, I believe the distinction is between "parks" and "reserves" -- parks are fenced and reserves are not). The fences are there to protect animals from poachers.

@Amanda - my camera is a Nikon d5000, and we have a couple telephoto lenses.
