H and I got back from our safari honeymoon in Kenya a week ago and I’ve finally sorted through my photos. A number of WW users have asked me to post a recap of our trip, so I’m going into detail here in case it’s helpful for anyone else thinking about a safari.

Our trip was just under two weeks and we saw three parks: we spent two nights at the Samburu National Reserve, one night at Lake Nakuru in the Rift Valley, and then three nights in the Masai Mara. From there, we flew to the coast and spent four days on a private island off the coast in the Indian Ocean.

This is going to be long, so skip ahead if you just want animal pictures!!

After one night in Nakuru, we left for the Masai Mara. Most people have heard of the Serengeti -- that's just what that particular savannah is called in Tanzania. Once you cross the border with Kenya, you're in the Masai Mara.

The Mara was amazing. It's also huge. You could easily spend an entire week just in this reserve. We saw SO MANY LIONS omg.

Here are a couple pictures of the Common Zebra (aka the zebra we all know). You can see how they look different from the Grevy zebra in Samburu.

We also saw a pair of cheetah. Our guide said they're probably sisters who are old enough that they're no longer with mom, but young enough that they're still together -- once they reach sexual maturity they'll go off on their own.

The first time we saw them, they were just napping. There was a group of elephants nearby, so we left the area with the cheetahs to get a better look at the elephants. Then we saw a rabbit run by.

The next thing we knew, the cheetahs were CHASING the rabbit, and caught it! And then the elephants freaked out because of the cheetahs and all started trumpeting and running to surround the baby elephant and protect it. It was AMAZING. Probably the coolest thing I've ever seen.

The third type of giraffe is the Masai Giraffe, which has sort of a star-shaped pattern.

The sunrise in the Mara was also amazing. So interesting to see the landscape change as the sun comes up.
