H and I got back from our safari honeymoon in Kenya a week ago and I’ve finally sorted through my photos. A number of WW users have asked me to post a recap of our trip, so I’m going into detail here in case it’s helpful for anyone else thinking about a safari.

Our trip was just under two weeks and we saw three parks: we spent two nights at the Samburu National Reserve, one night at Lake Nakuru in the Rift Valley, and then three nights in the Masai Mara. From there, we flew to the coast and spent four days on a private island off the coast in the Indian Ocean.

This is going to be long, so skip ahead if you just want animal pictures!!

Sounds like a trip of a lifetime, honestly what could be better than an experience like that alongside your forever bestfriend/partner Smiley smile.

It must be amazing seeing these amazing animals in their natural habitat, not stuck behind glass or cages. I don't know how people could see these animals and decide to shoot them with anything other than a camera Smiley sad. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and pictures. Hoping to cross this off my bucket list one day (especially before my absolute favorite, the rhino's, are gone!)

One of the main reasons people go to the Masai Mara in July/August is to see the Great Migration. Thousands of wildebeest migrate north from Tanzania following the rains. The highlight is to see a crossing, where hundreds of wildebeest cross the river. Often there are predators (lions and crocodiles) lying in wait for easy prey.

The crossing we saw, all the wildebeest made it!

Was food and everything included in your costs? Did you spend money on anything else while you were there or was most of it included in the package that you booked?

Seriously looking into doing this!! The prices are expensive, but it looks so fun and unique.

Phew! I've got a bunch more but maybe I'll stop there.

@O&S - ugh, we have, like, ONE picture of the two of us on this trip! The problem with both being behind the camera all the time, I guess! I think I've got one on my phone, I'll try to dig it up!

@Massy - the orphanage was great. The babies all go out in the park during the day, so we arrived around 5 when the elephants are brought back in to their stalls for dinner and bedtime. There are 27 babies there right now. Once they're all back in their stalls, we could walk around from stall to stall to see them and interact.

@mmbrake28 - pretty much everything was included except for tips (we tipped each camp about $20 per day, and we tipped our driver/guide $300, then your standard couple bucks for porters, etc), souvenirs, and alcohol (I had wine with dinner every night, wine was $5/glass). Our whole trip was about $14k before airfare. It's doable for less, but unless you're into really *camping* -- it's not a cheap trip.

OMG your pictures are truly amazing. I love that you're describing everything and teaching us about what you saw! So glad you had an awesome time.

ETA my aunt and uncle went on a safari a few years ago and showed us SO MANY pictures, especially the wildebeest crossing. (Your pictures are much better lol).

Omg thank you so much for sharing, the baby animals and the sunrise pictures are just amazing. Will you share any info/pictures about your beach portion?

Sounds like an absolutely amazing time!

So was it a private safari or were you with a larger group of people?

@FromAtoB - it was private. There were other guests at the camps, obviously, but we were the only ones in our safari vehicle.

@bobbileighba - I only have iPhone photos from the beach! It was very much a standard beach resort - lots of reading on the beach, lounging by the pool, I got a body scrub and massage at the spa, 12/10 relaxing!

Then here are the two babies we adopted. First is Enkesha, a female who is only a few months old, and then Pare, a 3-year-old male. And then H with Pare.
