Hello! I am curious if anyone is doing a small backyard wedding? We will have. I more then 25 people and on a budget but want to spend more money for our honeymoon then wedding lol is that bad? We are going to a island in Hawaii so 5 days!
I would just love to hear what others are doing for small non traditional weddings! I thought about renting a nice Airbnb with a good backyard!

I saw one of my friends posted photos about getting married in her backyard! it looked rather lovely, actually haha. i think that's ok to host the ceremony at home if that's what you want!

I’m not but it does sound lovely! Very intimate. If you do then definitely share some photos! We’re not honeymooning so we didn’t save for it but have you been to Hawaii before? I went a few years ago and it was beautiful

It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen. You’ll love it! And you’ve never been on a plane?? I’ve been on more planes than I can count but I hate them every time 😅 I wish you luck on your first plane experience! The airport won’t be a whole lot of fun but everything else will be a cool experience for the first time!

I’m not scared of heights but planes just freak me out. Never get easier for me. Just hold your husbands hand and take deep breaths lol. Maybe don’t look out the window right away

That sounds lovely! However, most Airbnb’s do not allow parties so just make sure to check their fine print Smiley smile

It’s definitely do-able! Maybe if the Airbnb doesn’t work out you could reserve a room at a winery or something! Still causal and non traditional.
Good luck! Please let us know what you ultimately decide to do!

Totally fine to do a backyard wedding! Especially if you have a small guest list. Just make sure you have a contingency plan if it rains, whether that's space indoors or you get a tent with siding. I had a friend who had a backyard wedding that was BEAUTIFUL, but it poured right after the ceremony and ruined everything.

Something else to consider with backyard weddings is that you'll have to buy or rent EVERYTHING (tables, chairs, plates, lighting, tenting, dance floor/ space, catering, etc.), you'll have to make sure there's enough power available for your DJ, the lights, bar service, if you're cooking anything on-site, etc., and you'll need someone to put up decorations and take them down. You may also want to check local zoning laws to make sure having an event with lighting, noise, etc. won't be a problem. The cost for all of that could very well be less than booking a venue and worth the extra labor, but they're something to be aware of. I've had friends who were thinking about backyard weddings, but by the time they totaled up the cost it made more sense to just book a venue.

It could be doable if you or someone has a large yard. Airbnb and Vrbo don’t allow weddings or parties. Depending on what the landowner already owns as far as furniture, etc, you will run into high costs with a backyard wedding unless it is very simple, laidback, small.

Price everything out at a local party rental business for a long list of rentals that you have to bring in and compare those prices to a parks department owned venue that has tables/chairs/full kitchen/restrooms for everyone already included. A backyard wedding can be done on a tight budget but you have to already own the majority of items.

I am discovering this as I’m looking into it! I’m like wow, you don’t think you need all this until you are actually sitting down writing what you need

Hello! We were totally going to do the VRBO house rental for our wedding. I even emailed the owner to one and asked permission and he gave us the go. We were looking for a home with a nice big deck in the mountains for our vows and later dancing. We are only having 22 people (including us). Anyways it was only going to cost us about $1600 for two nights (1 full day), we would have rented a few tables and some chairs and of course catering food. However, we pushed our wedding back another year and canceled. Recently I found an actual venue rental nearby for way cheaper AND it includes lots of tables and chairs, 2 bathrooms, a huge property for us to roam around. It isn't as beautiful as a cabin in the mountains but its cute. I found it in a local moms group, a woman was asking for ideas to have another event (baby shower) and someone mentioned this place and Voila, found our new venue area lol.

So I recommend looking in local groups as well, you'd be surprised. Now I don't have to worry about renting chairs/tables/lights from another vendor, The place is meant for parties, and I still get the backyard type wedding but with a huge indoor space in case it rains/snows.

Yes, backyard weddings are quite normal in our area. Last March my friend's marriage function was conducted in the backyard, It was a small ceremony with some relatives and friends, but the function was grand with flowers, light and different varieties of dishes etc. All the dishes have been arranged well inside his backyard shed . The decoration was quite interesting to see. I think that it's ok to host the ceremony at home with a well-executed plan.
