Backyard wedding in February??

Macy, on June 24, 2019 at 11:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
After months and months of searching for the perfect venue that isn’t going to break the bank. I think I’ve decided I’d like to have it in his parents back yard, but we are getting married in February. Now hear me out, we live in Arkansas. So it probably won’t be cold! I feel like the more “relaxed” wedding style is OUR style but I’ve brought it up to a few pals and they thing that I will regret my choice.. I need some outside opinions!!

So I’m from Texas, went to school in Oklahoma, and have a lot of friends from Arkansas. February can have days where it will be 70 or it can be 35. I wouldn’t have an outdoor wedding in February without a heated tent which can be expensive.

I don't think you will regret it. If there is no covered area (in case of rain), you can rent or by party tents. Do you have a theme?

Just recognize that a backyard wedding is typically more expensive, not less, than one held at a venue. The reason is that instead of having a kitchen right there, your caterer has to transport all the food, dishes, heating and cooling equipment, chairs, tables, etc. Plus, you typically need to rent Port-A-Potties, tents, etc.

Once you add the cost for chairs to rent, food,if you plan on doing any touch ups. Tents bathrooms. I think backyard weddings only work when guest list is super small like 40 people.

If you do go that route, make sure you let people know beforehand! I don't have an inherent problem with backyard weddings, but I have been to a backyard wedding in the winter. I didn't know it was outside until it was too late, and while it's not normally too cold here, I was freezing the whole time, because nice dress didn't equal warm dress in that case. I definitely would have worn something else if I had known!

No, just no. You absolutely cannot predict February weather in the midwest period and February is not backyard hosting month. Unless your guest list is less than 20 people and there are more than 3 bathrooms then start looking for other places. Try local parks and recs for buildings and venues to rent. They are affordable.

I live in Tennessee and will be getting married in Alabama in February. One of my stipulations was that our venue had to have a ceremony and reception space inside. The southeast is so unpredictable that I wasn't willing to have an outside ceremony or reception as an option. It can either be warm or really cold in February.

I feel you girl! My FH and I looked and looked for venue's, everything was either way out of our price range or didn't fit our needs/vision for the price that was offered. We ended up opting for a destination "elopement". I did research upon research and came across a FABULOUS wedding planner named Emily through "elopement Las Vegas", who has great reviews and has been so involved. We are paying one flat fee for pretty much everything, except for the reception dinner after our ceremony, but our coordinator is in charge of making those plans/reservations for us, as well as transportation. We're getting married in April 2020 and I'm so excited!

If you're not completely against something like that, I would definitely recommend looking into it. Saves you time, stress and money!

What is considered not cold? In the evening?
