Backyard Wedding help

Ema, on April 3, 2020 at 8:27 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 17

Hey all!

So we were supposed to be getting married next Friday the 10th but of course we had to postpone due to closures and stay-at-home orders due to the coronavirus.

Even though we postponed the entire wedding to June, we are still wanting to get married on the 10th. We are planning on having an extremely small private ceremony (think elopement size) with just our parents and siblings in my backyard.

Here's the tough part. I have SIX DAYS to put this together. Has anyone else done something like this due to forced postponement? I do not want to use the same decorations we're using for the wedding, I'm not even going to be wearing the same dress. I want the two events to be completely unique to themselves. We're still going for a rustic theme. What kind of things (decorations) could I do or put together for this next week?? Our only options are Amazon prime (which is limited) and Walmart and we're trying to keep a very low budget. Any and all help (AND PICTURES!) will be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!!

Where I’m from groups of any size outside your household are banned. Y’all are lucky to be able to still do something in the backyard.
As for decorations maybe think lighting. So some nice string lights.

I would deff go to your local dollar tree. They have soooo much you can use even for decor, dinnerware, etc

Amazon would be your best bet— I would look for party decoration sets so you get more to choose from — even party city has bulk sets

We skipped all that. We just felt like papers and rings and witnesses and parents were the most important. We did have cake.

And since we were in our front yard, passersby.

Oh we're not supposed to be having any kind of events here either. I've been planning this wedding for 3 years and we've changed our date 4 times so I'm at the point where I don't even care. I AM marrying this man! lol. Plus its at my house and nothing is legally mandated here so I'm not worried about it!

I was thinking string lights too! We usually drape string lights along our back wall so I definitely think that would be really pretty and tasteful

My mom and I both love entertaining and are both very crafty so whenever we have a get together, small or big, we have to make it cute! We're definitely planning on keeping everything simple and probably going to use a lot of the decorations we used at the bridal shower. Definitely nothing over the top!

Oh our dollar store here is horrible! I couldn't even find champagne flutes when we went looking for stuff for the bridal shower.

We're probably going to keep our rustic theme and our same colors as well (lavender, grape, robins egg [blue], and ivory) we do have some decorations left over from the bridal shower we may use but definitely not everything!

We love entertaining too. But we literally told everyone to leave after 20 minutes. We told them we loved them and because we loved them, we wanted them to leave. But my husband is essential and we have no idea who all the police he works with have been exposed to.

Amazon is putting restrictions on certain items so pay attention to the estimated delivery date

I wouldn't go through a ton of trouble making the home event super extra - I'd use decorations you already have on hand or things you will think you can use again, especially since those other materials will be hard to get (even Amazon is delaying non-essential shipments, so all of my Prime items are taking an extra couple days to get here). Fresh flowers, clean linens, some nicer plates, glasses, and flatware, and everyone dressed up will still make it seem special without extensive decor. If you are going to buy anything, I would vote for some ornamental string lights.

I agree completely with Kari here.

Unpopular opinion: I wouldn't risk my health to go out to get superfluous decor especially if you already have some things from your shower...I'd even use wedding decor items you have already - using them again for the big shebang will tie the two events together and make it even more special tbh. I'm also trying not to flood amazon with things I don't absolutely need right now, to make sure my community can get the things they do need without going out and exposing themselves. I understand you've been waiting a long time for this, but these are unprecedented times and we should all do what we can to limit our personal strain on the collective system. For every banner or sign that you order, that's space on a crate in a truck that now can't deliver critical items to those who really need them. Just my opinion.
