Backyard bbq Wedding

Julie, on April 25, 2020 at 6:33 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
Our wedding is going to be at a large Airbnb that has a big yard, pool, and nature trails. Our ceremony is in the field at 1pm. We plan to use a Bluetooth speaker to play a song as my daughter (flower girl) and I walk down the isle. No bridal party.
I’m stuck on how to transition people after the ceremony. We won’t be having a DJ because it’s a small group of about 40people. I imagine we will do some pictures after.
Do we have the officiant announce for people to ‘explore’? Just not sure what wording to use.

If you’re going to take time to do photos after the ceremony, you should provide appetizers and drinks for guests to keep themselves busy. This is called cocktail hour. I would have the officiant direct guests to where those items will be served.

You can create signs saying, "cocktail hour this way!" or "this way to the food!" or whatever works best for the tone of your wedding.

Also, if there are buildings use said signs and the officiant to make it clear which ones are for your guests, and which ones are not.

People generally follow the crowd at weddings. They know not to get in front of the camera for portraits when the photographer is filming unless they are invited to do so. Typically people use that time to serve appetizers and drinks while guests mingle. Formal wording isn't needed or used. People will figure it out on their own so I wouldn't worry.

I totally agree Jana! People follow the crowd!

You can have some signs directing your guests, add a note in your program, and have your officiant tell your guests where to go next before the recessional!
