Backup Wedding Dress

Kelsi, on March 18, 2020 at 8:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Today while I was thinking about potential scenarios for my wedding (in case we have to change the plan because of COVID19) I realized I likely won’t be able to have my dress altered in time for our wedding, even if we’re able to get married our original date.

Anyone have any recommendations? I feel like a lot of brides may need the help here with this!

Is it because the dress won’t be here on time or because you can’t find a seamstress?

I dont know when your wedding is but my alterations appointment was canceled today and I rescheduled it for April 7 and David's Bridal said it would be just fine for my wedding which is May 16.

If you absolutely know you cant I would suggest trying Poshmark for a simple white dress or possibly Amazon or Lulus. That's my backup plan.

Right now my alterations appointment for April was canceled. My dress may not be altered in time for early June if they open back up.

Could you potentially look into another company to do the alterations? Like a mom and pop shop?

Can’t you just find a local seamstress as opposed to David’s bridal?

That is such a nightmare. You could always ask around locally and see if someone can recommend someone who does tailoring at home.
I'm so sorry this is happening I've cried almost every day. Just know you are not alone.

I am using a local shop. They’re actually someone I’ve used several times. Most places around us are closing from early - mid April.

Y’all, I promise I’ve looked into seamstress options. Right now the ones I’d trust that are local won’t be open until mid April. Davids Bridal won’t alter my dress because of the hem detailing. Trust me. I’ve exhausted my options and if my normal seamstress that I chose to entrust my dress with can’t open to take this on, my backup is a different dress. Hence...me asking for DRESS recommendations, not seamstress options 😂 I know you’re all trying to help but I’m looking for a backup just in case.

I was able to buy a dress off the rack at David's bridal that didn't need alterations. I would suggest buying one off the rack that fits like a glove.

Times like this make me so glad that I took up classes so I can alter my own dress. I hope you can find someone! Maybe reach out on Facebook marketplace and see if anyone can alter?

Start hunting on eBay! Take your measurements and search the wedding and women’s dresses. Pull the designer measurements for sizes and go from there. I’ve scored some deals during my shopping time and those dresses I purchased and then the venue changed I’ve recovered my money.

Consider other colors and designs too. We just canceled our June 20 2020 wedding and we may get married in September or goto justice of the peace then have a vow renewal celebration next year. I have a lovely Tadashi Shoji silk gown for the JP option and a stunning Ivory gown with lace and embroidered red roses from Stenay which was going to be my gown and I’ll wear it in September or next year if that’s how it goes down. Hugs to everyone!
