Backless Dress Woes/Add Boning?

Hello. My name is MacToBe and I have a tummy pooch. Smiley winking

My dress is below .... pretty unforgiving and I realize I brought this on myself by choosing this dress. I love it. What can I say? What I don't love is that it has an illusion lace back that plunges down to near my panty line, so any kind of tummy-minimizing shapewear is out (I've tried briefs but they give me a mahoosive muffin top). I've lost 25 pounds and have been doing ab workouts like a mad woman but my pooch doesn't want to leave.

Do you think I could get away with having some boning sewn into the front and sides to help smooth things out or do you think that would show too much on a dress like this? .... or..... *gasp* Do I just need to embrace the pooch?

Thanks @JoRocka. I don't have a bubble butt to admire (not much of one at all... boooo) but you're right. I shouldn't lose sight of how hard I've worked and the results I've seen. Guess I'll just keep up with the healthy eating and ask the seamstress if there's anything she can do. If not. Fuck it. haha

Gorgeous dress! I'm sure you will be beautiful in it. I don't know about adding boning but doesn't hurt to ask the seamstress.

Not sure what your diet is like, but I looked and felt my best after I switched to a paleo diet. I slimmed all over but was shocked at the difference in my stomach area after cutting out grains and dairy for a month.

MacToBe - I am sure it is not as noticeable as you imagine it to be. Congrats on the weight loss! That is some serious achievement. Did you pick the dress before or after you lost weight? Because if it was before, the dress may already look very different than the first time!

The only suggestion I can give is maybe add some yoga to your regular weekly workouts. It will help your posture A LOT which may help reduce the appearance of any pooch Smiley winking

Pilates is excellent for posture (which can be part of the pooch if you're not standing with your pelvis aligned) and for general core strength. I know you can't spot lose, but damned if you can't tighten and tone the muscles underneath, and that DOES pull things in! I know, because it happened to me Smiley smile If you try Pilates, go to a class where the teacher tells you exactly what to do and is hands on with students. You can't be expected to figure it out yourself from videos. You will inevitably not be doing it correctly or to the right extent. Good luck! And like PPs said, it's probably not noticeable or enough to draw attention from others Smiley smile

@Kiwi - I chose this dress when I had already lost about 10-15 pounds. I've lost another 10 plus since I ordered it.

Thank you for all of the suggestions! Definitely going to check out fitnessblender.com because I'm always looking for different free workouts! All great ideas. Smiley smile

    Congrats on the weight lost!

I will say my dress has boning and honestly it makes it poof up funny in certain areas if the alterations aren't just perfect. I would stay away from boning.

I saw your going to a seamstress. I'm sure she will be able to give a good suggestion!

I think your dress is beautiful. I also echo what others are saying. The pooch is the last to go, but you still have plenty of time to minimalize it. I would wait until closer to the wedding, to make sure you don't lose it yourself to ask the seamstress about adding boning

I'm 100% embrace the body you have and think the dress is amazing.

That being said, have you considered working out in the pool. There are some ab killing exercises but because they are in the pool, they don't (I believe at least) put a ton of strain on your lower back.

Thanks, Niki! Actually, something like that may work if I could find something similar with clear straps.... off to search!

I'm most concerned about maybe just an added thin layer between me and the dress front to help smooth any ripples or little bulges, ya know? The dress is so light weight for a wedding dress, which is one of the reasons I went with it. ... July wedding, and all, but it's posing some logistical problems.

ETA: Oh I LOVE the pool. Swimming has proven to be so good for my back. Unfortunately, I don't have one close enough to make it a viable regular workout option.

    @Kelsey - That's something I hadn't considered about the boning. Thanks!

Oh, no kidding! We may be onto something. Now I have to find something in a cup size that fits me. I'm 5'10" and have a larger band size but have teeny tiny ta tas. Smiley winking Jeeze, I'm hard to dress!

Since there seems to be quite a bit of lace back there, have you tried the shapewear with your dress? I'm thinking if it matches your skin tone pretty well I think the lace might cover it up enough that nobody will be able to see it (if that makes sense?)

You could also do a trick I did years ago. Plastic wrap and vapo rub. You liberally apply the vapo rub on your trouble spots and then wrap in olastic wrap. It helps to shrink the pouch some. It would take a few days and it is temporary, but effective and cheap. I'm doing it for my pouch and arms in June. You should start doing it every night for two or three weeks before.

Love this dress and think it's gorgeous. I think some others have said it, but some of the pooch might be from bloating, as it was for me. I cut out most dairy products (sad, I know) and it has helped to reduce my stomach pooch by preventing bloating - in addition to watching what I eat and exercising regularly.

MacToBe - I LOVE fitness blender. They have really amazing workout videos. Like everything you could want with lots of variety. If you want some good yoga, Yoga with Adriene on YouTube is great.
