Avoid February in Florida?

Donna, on August 4, 2014 at 3:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

I picked my beach wedding to be on 2/14/15 initially thinking it was the best date ever. Now I am having second thoughts. I was hoping to get some advice from those who have had weddings outside/on the beach in Florida in February. Freezing, right? Well anything below 70 degrees I hate. I am a born Floridian and don't like the cold weather at all. There are a few cons to this date because flowers are more expensive, honeymoon is on Allure of the Seas - cold and cruise don't mix. Should I change the date to March?

So, why did you pick the February date? So far, you've only given reasons why you think it's a bad idea ... going off of that, the only advice I can give is to change it.

I guess because I thought it would be great to get married on valentines day and second it was far enough away to give time for planning. I didn't realize the average temperature in Florida at that time of year is 60 degrees. What?!? I live here and didnt even know that.

March can still be cold - you're better off going for April or November.

If you are starting to think it wouldn't work or feel like the weather would be something to stress over, why not move it?

Also, like you said things WILL be more expensive because it is Valentines day. Wedding services are already ridiculously over priced but slap Valentines on top of it and it can get pretty expensive!

How were you born in FL but didn't know how cold the weather was in February? I am a born Texan and I know our weather patterns like the back of my hand. I wanted a winter wedding, though. I'd say definitely move it to April - May because, as you know, June starts hurricane season all the way through November and FL has a way of getting hit over and over.

It's normally warmer during the day so It might not be too bad; but our weather is so unpredictable you never know what you're gonna get. If you are set on that date move it indoors and I have gone on cruises in the middle of December and it was great (I too hate the cold) but it was not bad at all we still went swimming on the deck and to the beach

I would change it to later on during the year like March or April.

Thanks allidb8579 and your right our weather is unpreditable. Most people think we have beautiful weather year round and that is not the case. We've had winters in the 30s many times.

I would go with March. I'm from FL too...the warmer it gets, the more it rains. I'm getting married in North Florida in March, so I think it's a great time!

I live in S. Florida, I think Feb weather could be hit or miss… our avg temp in Jupiter (don't know how far south you are) is 77 with lows in upper 50's. March is always beautiful but it can be a bit more windy. If I had my choice of Feb or March I'd go with March. April is the best month but again it can start to get a little warm. And as far as your cruise, it's always warm in the Carib.

@Kristin yea you're close!! Smiley smile The thing is Feb could be awesome too don't you think? It's just a little more iffy that time of year. March/April best months for sure! But we do play beach volleyball all year round down here, and Dec - March are my favorite months because it's not hot as friggin Africa! Smiley smile It can either be beautiful and warm with the sun out but in the 70's (ahh perfect) or a little on the chilly side if a cold front moves through and it's more like in the 60's (I'm talking for Feb). I know "60's" are cold if you're from Florida, hehe.

I'm south of Clearwater, in Sarasota. It is usually mid-60s here in the middle of Feb. We have a group renewal of wedding vows each Valentine's Day. Some years it is very nice, some years it is a bit chilly (especially after the sun sets).

March and April are usually pretty nice. Motel rates go down May 1. Here rainy season starts mid-June (afternoon thunderstorms). Usually it is Aug. before we get any threats of hurricanes, but this area has been luckier than areas 60 miles to the north or 40 miles to the south.

I'm in Orlando and I'm getting married in February, with an outside ceremony/inside reception. Honestly, I remember February this year was in the 80's and clear. Last year, it rained. You never know what you're going to get that time of year, but I personally love it and am glad I chose February.

I am in South Fl. I am doing my wedding in March. During the day in Feb it's 50/50 here, you never know. It could be 80's or it could be 60's. I think end of March or early April would be perfect in your case. Me personally, I would hate for it to be too hot (even if it's at the beach) My makeup would run.

I would agree with Marina. I lived in Miami for many years and now I'm in Central Florida.. in my opinion, the perfect month would be in October.

Thanks to all who commented. I have decided to stick with 2/14/15. Worst case scenario, I could request an indoor ceremony up to 2 hours before the event. I feel good about my decision. Anything above 65 degrees and I'll be happy, happy, happy! Smiley smile

I have vacationed there in middle of March, and coming from St. Louis it is gorgeous to us. IT is usually cold here (like 40-50's or SNOWING!)
