I cannot speak to Memphis Tennessee but I can tell you how to calculate if it is fair!

Say a shampoo, cut, blow dry (standard service, nothing fancy) takes an hour on the stylists appt book and runs $50.00 for the service (plus tip), A wedding make up job will take about an hour, the hair can take 2 hours easy...plus your trial run another 3 hours total. Typically a good stylist will not do 6 hours of formal work for less than they would make in those same 6 hours of standard cut and go services...so 300 in service, and about 60 in tips....but where it differs is that a really good formal stylist realizes the skill set it takes to make you camera ready is different than the skill set it took to give you 6 hair cuts...so bump that price to 75 an hour plus tip (around 90 per hour at 6 hours, you would be at $540.00) So basically, if you get close to $350 including tip, you are getting a steal...if you are paying much more than $550-600, you are getting taken to the bank. Hope this helps

Im in clarksville, tn and having a wedding on a smaller sized budget so im in the same boat!

my regualr cost here for getting my hair done (very long and thick) is about 100-120 for shampoo, cut, color and simple style... about 2 1/2 hrs of work.

Thank you for the information studio BE! it is very helpful. I was looking at a MUA that give me a price of $800, i would have her for the whole day and she would be doing makeup for 10 people, the only thing is that price does not include hair.

thanks jennifer i will check thumbtack.com out =)
