ChewBekka, on March 25, 2014 at 10:57 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7

Looking for thoughts, tips and places to see or go for a honeymoon in Australia and/or NZ. FH and I are taking 2 weeks off for the honeymoon and want to do it right. We'll be going Feb 2015.

HI there! I have been to both AUS and NZ. NZ is great if you want adventure, AUS is great for its beaches! Sydney Australia is one of the coolest cities Ive ever been to and the Whitsunday Islands in AUS are A M A Z I N G..... similar to fiji or the maldives. I highly recommend!

I am from NZ! Always excited to hear when someone wants to travel there!

Ideally I would recommend you hire a campervan in Auckland and drive down to Queenstown. So much to see along the way and it will blow your mind how different the north is to the south, even though it is a tiny wee country. You would really need the full 2 weeks for this though.

Feb is the BEST time of year to visit, which is why I am having my wedding in that month! It is the hottest month, but never gets too hot in NZ.

If you only can afford 1 week in NZ, what type of things would you like to do? I would probably recommend the South Island - Queenstown is an awesome place to start, lots of beautiful mountains, scenery, and lots of activities in Queenstown. When FH and I move home we are planning to ultimately end up in Qtown.

But if you want more of a beachy vacation I would recommend the north, Bay of Islands is beautiful, or up to the Karikari peninsula.

I think we'll want to spend a day out in gret barrier reef and maybe some hiking but beyond that we don't have any direction. We both love good food, adventure, and seeing new places

I live in the most beautiful country, NZ!!!

If you want to hike and still see the beautiful scenery I would recommend the Abel Tasman walk.

It is looked after by our Department of Conservation (DOC) and depending on your experience, it can take between 3-5 days. It is a relatively easy walk so you should be fine Smiley smile You will still get to enjoy the golden sands that NZ has to offer and all the nature you could ask for!! See link below:

    http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/nelson-tasman/golden-bay/abel-tasman-coast-track/

Other than that, there are some awesome walks and if you look up the 'Great Walks of NZ' under the DOC website (above) there are many to choose from.

PLEASE remember to take emergency locator beacons, warm clothing, first aid, water, food and cellphones. We have so many tourists not fully preparing themselves for our country and they get lost or worse.

NZ is home to some awesome wineries as well so if that is something you are interested in you could throw that in with the good food they offer as well Smiley smile

Feel free to email me if you want anymore info!

    Happy Honeymoon planning!! xx

Hi Rebekkah! Two weeks is a very short time in which to try and visit two very different countries. If you're visiting in February it is the hottest month here in Australia (and it can get rather warm!), and the tropical wet season up north. This has an impact on visibility in the water on the Great Barrier Reef if you are looking to dive or snorkel. It's also stinging jellyfish season which means most of the beaches are closed.

It's also our Christmas/summer/end of year school holidays so it is peak season for flights/accommodation and it will be very busy as a lot of people take their annual leave and travel.

I like the itinerary Mrs T gave you for New Zealand - it's such a beautiful country and being more compact you'll be able to see more with your time. If you're into adventure and hiking, NZ has it all! Happy if you want to PM me for more information Smiley smile
