August 2020 wedding

Tran, on July 30, 2020 at 1:34 AM Posted in New York Planning 0 10

Hi all!

Anyone still getting married next month with a reception afterwards? I am in NYC and our maximum is 50 people. We had a 300 people guest list and it's becoming really impossible. I don't want to postpone because I don't want to deal with this stress again next year. SO we're planning on canceling the reception because they won't even open for 50 people and we're looking at different restaurants with private rooms and spaces. I just hope they give us a refund because we put down a lot of money and nothing is in our control right now.

I am so sorry to hear that your wedding isn’t going to go as you planned. I am not in NYC but I can imagine the restrictions are tough.

I think it’s great that you are still going to do something special like a dinner to celebrate your wedding day! I don’t have advice but I just wanted to give you a shoutout that you are rocking it and that your day will be extremely special! My father in law keeps telling especially with covid foiling plans that you won’t be any less married, any less in love, and it will be special.
All venues are different, I am going through with my wedding reception because my venue said that they will not refund us because it’s our decision to cancel and we are not obligated to cancel... it’s very upsetting and adds a lot of stress. However my venue does not have a limit on guests. I would imagine that the venue would understand going from 300 to 50 is impossible and that it is out of your control, and truthful not your choice. Sending positive vibes and hoping you many many years of happiness!

I'm sorry you're having to cancel.

As someone in the NYC area, I'd be very surprised if you are able to find a place that will allow indoor dining, as that is still banned. You might want to expand your search to places that have private patios or rooftops.

That said, I do hope they give you some kind of refund, because it is not your fault that you are cancelling. Good luck!

I am! August 15th with 114 planning to attend. We will have a reception to follow. I’m in Indiana so I’m just hoping no other restrictions come up within the next two weeks!

Hi Tran, we've had to deal with a similar dilemma here in Colorado. What we are doing is having an "open house" style of reception where guests come and go in shifts. This way we can stay compliant. It is more planning, but we need our people!

    Hope this helps!
