August 2020 Southeast Wisconsin Wedding

Jess, on September 10, 2019 at 8:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

Booked my wedding for 8/22/2020 at River Club of Mequon in Mequon, WI, but it has exceeded my guest count. Where should I advertise this?? Help?! Otherwise, any advice on getting out of the contract without incurring fees? Per the contract, it states I am liable to pay 80% of the F&B (which is totaled at $16,000 for my estimated guest count). This has been stressful!

How much over capacity are you? Can you cut the guest list?

The capacity is 500. We are pushing 600+ at the moment. We booked the venue based off my and my fiance's guest list which was about 500, however, due to cultural reasons (but mostly to respect my grandpa's wishes) we are inviting more. Cutting the list is the last option as I know it'll make many people I love unhappy! Stuck in a pickle. The venue is willing to cancel my contract at no cost if someone replaces me. It's still some time out, but getting nervous that no one is looking in that area Smiley sad

I went to school over there! I mean try posting on FB marketplace? I wonder if they’d be willing to try to find a couple to fill the spot when they’re showing the venue for tours? I mean you might just have to cut the list.....while I doubt you’ll have a 100% yes for replies you would have to have a 17% decline rate. This is common but I would be scared to take that chance.

I'm from SE Wisconsin too - there are some WI wedding FB groups that you could post to where you might find some takers. Aside from taking another look at the guest list and cutting the outer ring socially, I'm not sure what else can be done. Gosh, I cannot imagine a wedding of 600 people. Good luck!
