August 2020 Brides - Keeping or Postponing Your Wedding Date?

Bolt2020, on April 27, 2020 at 8:11 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12
I am getting married on 08/22/2020 and I am wondering what other August brides are thinking of doing. I have a small feeling we might have to postpone our reception, but really want to hold off and see how things go. What are y'all thinking? Thanks!

Our date was August 14 in NY and we are postponing.. considering eloping on our original date and having the reception and party next fall. I don’t think I could take the uncertainty over the next month or two of wondering if we could have all of our family and friends together, or if it would be safe.

    Where in NY are you?

We’re 8/22 in Long Island and still holding out. Waiting till June / July to make a final decision.

Aug 22nd, and holding out hope! We’re getting married at our home, and guest list is around 60 so we think we’ll be ok under those circumstances. May have to cut the guest list some...

August 8th and still holding out.

We will marry that day regardless. Just a matter of whether it will be the whole shebang or a small thing and the big event later.

We are getting married on 08/15 in CT. Waiting to see what happens over the next few months. It all depends on when the state opens things up again. Fingers crossed everything is back to "normal" by then.

We’re in westchester... I’m just worried if we hold out that the date selections in 2021 will be very limited.

To be very honest, that did happen to me. We made the decision to postpone our July wedding on Long Island two weeks ago. And our venue didn't have any dates available until August 2021...crushed my dream of a July wedding, but what can ya do? I feel lucky that they still had some Saturdays, especially in the summer; I have heard from other brides that their venues were out of Saturdays until 2022. If you're concerned about this, I would recommend calling your venue and seeing how it's going. You don't have to commit to anything, obviously, but it might be good to know. We were actually prompted by calls and emails from our vendors telling us that 2021 was filling up and if we were going to postpone, we should act quickly.

My wedding is September 5 in Maryland. I've been closely monitoring everything and am planning on reaching out to my vendors this week so I have a contingency plan. At this point it's very up in the air as to whether or not we can still have the wedding (140 guests), but I still think it's too early to make the call. We have a lot of family in NY/CT and some flying in (including my brother/bridesman and a groomswoman) so that is definitely a consideration too.

I'm a meeting planner and have a "planner" personality, so it is stressing me out not knowing. I would much rather just postpone now so I don't have to worry... but if there is still a chance we can still do it in September it would still be easier. I had my bridesmaids buy there dresses last month and I have mine too for example.

I'm hoping to make a decision within the next 4-6 weeks if possible.

I feel you... we're out in Long Island and similar situation. Things are booking up so quickly. I almost wish we had a April/May date so that we had clarity on whether or not to postpone lol.
