Attire on wedding website

AugustBride, on January 22, 2018 at 11:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hi everyone!

Okay this might be a stupid question. What's the difference between formal and semi formal?

How would you put this on your wedding website and invitations?

From what I understand etiquette advises you don't specify the attire unless it's black tie or black tie optional. The level of formality of your invitations, the time of your ceremony, and the location will give your guests a clue as to how they should dress.

Can you give us those details about the type of venue and time? I don't think you should put attire on the invites or website, but friends and family may text you for guidance. If that happens I plan on replying "Some people are wearing long dresses, others will wear short, so I'm sure you won't be out of place. Dress how you feel comfortable partying at a hotel in the city (my reception venue)."

Your answer will change drastically you're getting married by the beach, at a barn, at a nice restaurant ect.

Formal is more like gowns and semi formal is a nice dress for women and slacks for men. On the website Under the wedding portion of the it as a place for dress code we put semi formal.

You don't specify dress code for the exact reason you needed to ask this question. People's opinions of what is what (besides black tie) will vary based on geography, generation, etc etc etc. For the most part, people know how to dress for a wedding that is not black tie based on time of day, location, invitation, etc. The people that don't know how to dress for a wedding will not care what you put on your website. As Maria said, people might ask you what others are wearing but you can just leave it off your website.

I wouldn't add anything to your website honestly unless it's black tie. Adults know how to dress for a wedding. If anyone asks you something specific, you can let them know Smiley winking

Are you having a black tie wedding? If no, then there is no reason to require a dress code.

I totally agree with the above responses. My fiance had a work Christmas party that said "smart casual" I got so caught up on what that meant it drove me insane. Unless you are having a black tie affair than I would leave it out completely.
