Attack of the Tulle monster

Mrs. Bauer-*$, on February 5, 2014 at 5:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 44

Okay I admit not everyone will agree with me on this but I have to vent about it anyway. I have been looking at dresses online for awhile to get an idea of the style that I like. Is it me or does every dress have Tulle on it these days? For me personally I HATE TULLE!! cant stand it one bit! and I keep seeing more and more dresses with it and its driving me nuts. I keep looking at pictures and love the bodice of the dress and then look at the skirt and its Tulle, and all I can think in my brain is THE TULLE MONSTER ATTACKS. Sorry ladies I had to vent on this one. and again if you like it more power to ya, you should have no problem finding a dress.

Neither of my dresses have tulle. I have a short lace ball gown that I'm putting a petticoat under and a satin mermaid.

mermaid, trumpet, and fit n flares don't typically have a lot of tulle, if any.

Not a tulle fan either. It's cute on little kids. Adults, not so much. My dress is satin.

I love tulle! And my dress is mostly tulle. What I don't like is all the taffeta and satin... it's just so shiny, it makes me think of the 80's. I also don't like pickups in skirts... still 80's or early 90's. But, to each their own.

My tulle's going to get you! Haha!

I wouldn't have gotten satin if my FH hadn't chosen it as his "dream dress" (thank goodness it's not that shiny!) but taffeta unless it's done right in a ball gown can be really dreadful

@OhHeyItsIna, I had the exact same thing happen to me!! I went in to my appointment saying "absolutely NO tulle" and came out with my perfect dress which the salon owner knew would be perfect for me which is almost 100% tulle... Funny how those things work out.

I lied maybe my dress does have tulle at the bottom, lol. But I can't upload any pics bc I am on a hotel computer right now. But it's not an overwhelming amount.

@Blondie123: Most bridal gowns don't use "shiny" satin, they use matte satin. While this isn't always the case, it's pretty standard. "Shiny" satin tends to give a lot of glare with photography, is difficult to work with, and tends to be unflattering on just about everyone. Matte satin tends to drape well, be much easier to work with, much more flattering, but still give a soft sheen without being garish.

My dress is all satin, and yes, even has the dreaded pickups. *LOL* I love it. I looked at a couple of tulle dresses, and even almost ended up with one that was a satin bodice with tulle skirt, but I just loved mine more. Smiley smile Oh, and pickups are actually a far more recent trend, as in, within the last 2-3 years. Smiley winking

Mine is matte satin and I love it. It shimmers, rather than being garish and shiny. There's boatloads of tulle under the skirt though. My seamstress will be removing some.

Ok I'm an anti-tulle tulle wearing bride. I felt the same way and the dress I fell in love with has tulle. Well I guess its more organza. But still.

I hated tulle until I found my dress. The overlay made it look so much better to me. No idea why this one was okay for me lol.

    Mollishism- Ok, it's "sheen-y" ;-)

I actually don't ALWAYS hate satin- it can be done in not too bad ways. Especially on vintage 20's, 30's, and 40's sheath dresses. I was more being a devil's advocate than anything. But I can see using it in certain situations- Let's say, if all the lace in the world were destroyed and I had a winter wedding, then I would go with satin.

However, I will not retract my hatred of pickups. ew, pickups ;-)

I was right the first time. My dress has NO tulle.

"Soft beaded lace gown, that has a deep sweetheart neckline with an organza and lace ruffle skirt. Matching lace covered buttons go down the entire bodice."

So I said I hated tulle, pickups, crystals and anything that resembled a ballgown until I found my dress. My dress is a ballgown with pickups on the skirt and a bodice covered in beading/crystals. Originally wanted a flowy sheath dress that fit closer to the body but when I tried on the style I was imagining it did not look good on me. (im short and skinny and this style made me look pregnant).
