Asian wedding. Is it okay to wear red?

Sasha, on April 3, 2019 at 1:29 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
I’m attending a wedding for my cousin. She’s very “Americanized”, so I’m not worried about her so much....

what I’m worried about is her mom/dad (so my aunt and uncle). Is wearing red a sign of disrespect?

I wouldn’t because she might change into a Chinese red dress for her reception.

I made this mistake once. Don't wear white or red. I had the choice of 2 dresses dead sure the bride would wear red and she and I wore white... I thought she was going to wear red.

I didn't mean to. I am kinda poor. It didn't look like a wedding dress and the bride didn't seem to care (not trying to upstage or anything / casual wedding)

If there is any concern, I would just avoid that color...there are so many other colors to choose from. Smiley smile

My fiancé is Chinese and I’ve been instructed not to wear red to a wedding, as it may be seen as disrespectful. If you’re already unsure, probably better to choose another color.

Of all your options, I would go the western ivory, champagne, or blush dress. I would avoid white, red, and the Phoenix dress.

Interesting. I'm Chinese and to us red is a lucky color. As a bride, I could care less what color people wore to my wedding but I understand some brides do care. I'd stay away from white, anything that might look too bridal, and anything that looks like a qipao. Other than that, I feel like red would be fine. If you're comfortable asking your cousin or your parents about the etiquette, I'd recommend that.
