Are you printing/bringing/reading/memorizing your vows for the ceremony?

AMW, on May 10, 2016 at 5:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I know my mind will go blank at the altar, so I need to bring a copy of our vows. We're in the process of writing them now, so we're not certain how much we'll be saying to one another, but we're not sure that we want to do the "repeat after me" style for our vows. We're working with an amazing officiant, and she suggested that some couples bring printed copies to read to one another.

What are you doing with yours? Memorizing? Index cards? Regular paper? Writing them on your hand? I want to see what you're doing Smiley smile

I'm just using the traditional vows (in a church), but I've seen it before where the bride and groom give their written vows to the officiant the day before at the rehearsal, and they hold on to them. And then they can hand them to you to read during your ceremony. Then you don't have to worry about memorizing, or bringing them with you and it works pretty seamlessly.

We're doing the repeat after me. Not really what I wanted, but FH doesn't want to worry about getting emotional while reading or remembering his words.

I've seen people use index cards or small paper that can be folded/unfolded.

I always tell my couples NOT to memorize them, but to read them. I usually print them in a little book or on pretty paper for my couples.

We're doing our own vows. I'll probably print, or write, on nice paper. I don't trust myself to have it memorized Smiley smile

We will be having something written for ours. My FH is terrified he'll forget his, and I know I'd go blank. Not sure where we'll have them written, but I'm leaning towards regular paper or card stock. Although @Sarah's vow books sound cute...

    ETA: Spelling.

We got these on Etsy. She put our date and a phrase on the inside cover, and the pages are lined. I love them.

My couples e-mail to me their personal vows. I include them in the keepsake ceremony booklet. I also print them onto pretty paper to hand to them at the appropriate point in the ceremony. That way, they don't have to worry about losing the papers or taking wadded up bits of paper from pockets or bosom.

We are writing our own vows. I will most likely type it out to have it fit on an index card. It would be nice if I can memorize it all, but with my nerves and all, I'm not taking a chance!

@Celia I'm so glad to hear that's what you don't recommend--because if I do memorize them I know I'll come out robotic on the day of!

@Nancy I'm cracking up because yeah, i would totally be twisting mine in my hands.

@Samantha okay, I love those! I'm definitely going to do something similar, that hadn't occurred to me to get a keepsake book but I hate the idea of standing there holding a 3x5 card Smiley smile

We didn't write our own vows per se but we customized them completely. We repeated after our officiant. I also practiced before-hand Smiley smile

I would use some scrap paper. I'm making a scrap book and would love random paper with both of our handwriting with our vows

We also purchased vow books...something I didn't know existed until WW. There is no way in hell I could memorize my vows.

I think reading them. I'll print off on something pretty. I also heard about cute vow books
