Are you filling your venue to capacity?

GrayCatVintage, on June 16, 2014 at 6:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 40

Are you inviting just enough people so that in the event that EVERYONE is a *Yes* you will have comfortable space for them, or are you inviting more than you can accommodate *knowing* you will get some declines?

I think we are going to be in a pickle at our venue. It was brought to my attention over the weekend that we need to add yet another 4 people to the guest list. It seems like this list is growing each month by 2-4 people. Right now we can comfortably seat 128 guests - or elbow-to-elbow seat 160. I would really not like to seat 10 guests at a 5 foot round table - it is just too cramped when people are eating.

So, the question is should I talk with FH about chopping the guest list now or just "hope for the best" and hope we have enough declines to get us back to 128 people?

I'm inviting only about half of what my venue can accommodate.

My venues capacity is 80 (they told us 75, but I pushed for 80). I'm inviting about 85, knowing I'll get atleast 5 declines.

My venue accommodates 250 and we're inviting 70 lol.

I think you need to reevaluate your guest list, don't over invite! I went to a wedding where guests were elbow to elbow, back to back, more than most of the guests were not only hot and sweaty, but no one danced because the dance floor was too small AND a lot of people ended up leaving early.

Thankfully, my venue holds like 250. I think our guest list is at 171.

I would talk to FH about it. What if you invite everyone and they all RSVP yes and all show up? Yes, that's unlikely but stranger things have happened.

I doubt it. the venue I have in mind holds 325. We are thinking about keeping the number under 200. closer to 150

We invited up to capacity and they would have been seated all comfortably if everyone had shown up, which was 180. But since we had a lot of people from out of town we knew we would get a few declines any ways. We ended up at 135 people and it worked out wonderfully.

My venue (for reception) looks like it could hold several hundred (like 600) and my guestlist is around 80. The church hold IDK but way more than 80 Smiley tongue

My venue said they could hold 250 (confirmed 3 times before sending invites to 262 people) then they gave us the floorplan which only showed seating for 226 so I was stressed to the max waiting for declines! We ended up at 206 which is a great number for us, only filling some tables to capacity

My venue holds 300 people and we're inviting 200. I suggest talking to your FH and seeing if you can trim the guest list

My venue holds 120 with no dance floor (not an option) or 100 with a dance floor. We have 116 including the BP and us. I've decided on a sweetheart table to free up some room. Hoping for some declines.

My venue has a capacity of up to 200. I am inviting around 140 (if my parents will ever get their family list together!) I think. I know not everyone will show up. But in case they do, we will have to figure out whether to move everyone outside or some outside. I can fit 120 comfortably inside. In case of rain I will have to fit EVERYONE inside the barn or use a company to put up tents (city ordinance). I am trying to keep it on the lower end (120) to accommodate everyone without them feeling like human sardines. If I hit 130, we can handle that. Just move the dance floor outside. I am crossing my fingers for wonderful weather. And no need to make a last minute rain plan.

We invited less than 1/2 what the venue could hold. & even less said they could come, it gave extra room for everyone for everything inside, buffet, apps, dancing ect

Venue capacity is 80. We only invited 51 people and will have 44 in attendance (we were hoping for 40, but oh well).

Our venue holds 250 comfortable, we invited 300. Big difference I know! But our wedding is in northern Michigan and we KNEW without a doubt we would get at least 50 declines so it worked. We actually only have about 175 of the 300 coming which is perfect. 300 is a lot!

My venue can fit 350 and we are inviting about 250. A large dance floor is a necessity for us!

The chapel for ceremony has limit of 300 and the reception hall has 2 rooms. Room A is bigger and reserved for groups of like 160-250 or 300(can't recall) and Room B is the smaller one with limit of 150. I reserved the larger room with a guarantee of 120 plates paid for. IT is easier to go over 120 than stay under 150 in smaller room. Plus we will have elbow room.
