Are you changing clothes before leaving your reception?

HMills, on July 27, 2016 at 4:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

I've always envisioned pictures of me and FH in the car waving goodbye to our guests with our wedding clothes still on. However, my mother couldn't believe this as she thinks we should change into something more comfortable before we leave even though our hotel is only 15 minutes away and we aren't going on a honeymoon until December so having to deal with putting my dress somewhere won't be a big issue. I was just wondering if anyone else is keeping their dress on when they leave or if its more popular to change before leaving.

I'm not changing. I'm only wearing my wedding dress once, so I'm wearing the heck out of it. FMIL keeps trying to get me something to change into but no thanks. Like yours, our hotel is right down the road too.

Most likely, I am keeping my dress on till we get to the hotel and then changing there. We are doing an after party at the hotel bar.

I changed! Mostly because I got some sort of sauce on my dress (oops) and so my mom took it with her to get it cleaned... But who am I kidding, that was the plan all along. It just made even MORE sense when I saw the sauce.

I did not change, but the hotel where DH and I stayed was the venue so all I had to do was go up to our room. My daughter (adult) was spending the night at the hotel as well and I had her come to the room with me as I was giving the dress to her (so she can wear it some day).

I'm planning to change. I think we are going to go somewhere to get drinks and fancy dessert, just the two of us, before we check in to our hotel. My dress is a ballgown, so I really just don't see that going well.

I think it was more common to change way back in the parent's & grandparent's days especially if leaving straight for the honeymoon, the couple would change into 'traveling clothes'. Now though, it seems more brides prefer to wear their wedding dress as long as possible and most leave to go to a hotel overnight instead of their honeymoon straight off. They're exceptions of course, it comes down to personal preference, budget, and in this instance 'do what you want' because there's no etiquette governing it!

I was thinking about wearing my dress home until I thought about my dog and his fur. Might just have to change after everyone leaves so we can clean up a little and then go home.

We are leaving in our dress and suit and then going to my mom's house to change before heading to the hotel and leaving for a honeymoon the next day.

I planned on milking ever ounce of time out of my dress, but brought something along just in case. I am so glad I did. After sitting to eat in it, I couldn't wait to get it (and the foundation garments) off. I left the reception in a shorter, looser, ivory dress. I was able to move so much better and was way more comfortable. I did keep my veil on though.

I'm keeping my wedding dress on until I get in bed. Who am I kidding? I'll probably sleep in it!

I am. We are riding away on our tandem bike, which isn't possible in my mermaid cut dress.

If you aren't going on your honey moon right away then keep the wedding clothes on.
