Are Wedding Planners Even Necessary?

As a teacher and full-time graduate school student, there was no way I was going to be able to plan my wedding on my own. After an internet search, I found my wedding planner Cristina. Cristina was a guru who helped me with a range of wedding needs including music selection, venture tours, contract readings, cake tasting, decor, day of coordinating, and more. For my husband and I a wedding planner was absolutely necessary and worth every dime we spent.

Do you believe wedding planners are necessary? Why or why not?

In If you don't hire a day of coordinator and your venue does not offer one then you and your family will be responsible for set up, take down, and every concern guests might have in between.

I completely understand. Those little details can add up to a lot of stress.

I disagree, the things that you mentioned is a planners job. Be cautious of the fact the vendors give "false discounts" that may lead you to believe you're saving a lot of money when in reality they offered an inflated rate to begin with. Lastly, a wedding planners job is not to "pick" things for you. Their job is to support you in making the best decision for your style, budget, etc. Ultimately I don't think everyone has to have a wedding planner, but I do believe there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding their roles.

That's a great question that I wish I had the answer to.

I guess that's correct. But a day of coordinator wouldn't set up my venue. That's something we're doing the day before. And she wouldn't tear it down, as that's something we have the venue for the next day.
She might help us flip the venue. And talk to the transportation company. But it's not worth an extra $800 to me to avoid putting up some tables and chairs myself.

I have a friend who is a wedding planner, so I’m familiar with planner roles & prices in our area. Fun story: she offered to negotiate price for our venue, which is crazy expensive, as a favor for us (she said she can get better discount as a wedding planner). We contacted the venue independently of each other & in the end we both got a discount, but I got $500 off more than she did 🤷🏻‍♀️
For me personally, a random person who just met me & knows nothing about my very specific style & vision, doesn’t bring anything to the table when it comes to making decisions on vendors or planning our wedding. I explained in my previous post why this is the case for me in particular. But, as I said, different things work for different people & that’s ok 🙂
