Are Wedding Planners Even Necessary?

As a teacher and full-time graduate school student, there was no way I was going to be able to plan my wedding on my own. After an internet search, I found my wedding planner Cristina. Cristina was a guru who helped me with a range of wedding needs including music selection, venture tours, contract readings, cake tasting, decor, day of coordinating, and more. For my husband and I a wedding planner was absolutely necessary and worth every dime we spent.

Do you believe wedding planners are necessary? Why or why not?

For me it was necessary but I was never the type of bride who had her wedding planned out and I didn’t want to pick out invitations, place settings, floral arrangements etc. So to have someone help me with all of that every step of the way was invaluable. She wasn’t cheap though!

My wedding planner has a list of things she helps with buy honestly she was open to helping us with everything! I was so excited to have her! Do you mind sharing how much you paid? My planner blessed us with $1,200 for a years worth of service! So it was $100 a month even though we paid all upfront. She was a great investment! She helped us save thousands on vendors.

My wedding planner is my life saver. She’s doing everything for me from my STD, invitations, signs for my wedding, my florals and of course coordinating . She is so talented and I got her for a great deal. I couldn’t imagine doing this without her.

I think a day of coordinator is necessary! Someone your guests and family can go to and not bother you, as well as keep everything going to plan. I planned everything on my own while going to grad school and working full time. Wedding Wire has been a HUGE asset in planning. Made it easy finding vendors and services

I agree! I was also worried that if I got a planner, she wouldn't be able to work within my budget for finding other vendors.

My vendor actually helped me stay in my budget because I wanted everything! Though I spent money to have a planner, I saved thousands due to her expertise in negotiating contracts.

We paid $12,000 for a full service planner for the wedding and welcome party. Wedding planners in my area with a lot of experience start at $10k so it was pretty standard for my city. It was so wonderful never having to communicate with vendors or set up room blocks or transportation and all that. She seriously handled everything.

It was needed for me, I honestly haven't been to many weddings, and had no idea what I was doing or where to start. I think my planner has helped a lot, but I sure am still doing a lot of work lol! The more I thought about it and was lucky enough to have funding to do so, I really didn't want much DIY at my wedding. I am a very anxious person, and with my stressful job, and everything else I just wanted to leave things up to creative professionals. So that's how my wedding is, I'm paying other people a little more so I can have convenience and less stress lol. I see a lot of the DIY brides creating beautiful things though, but I know that wasn't the style for me. To each their own!

I hired a planner and Im so glad that I did. Hubby didnt see the benefit in the beginning but the day of and even now he completely understands. If you can finagle your budget to hire someone, definitely do so

As a "hands on bride" I had a planber but I also had a lot of DIY projects. I wanted my guests to feel like everything was customized and handmade by my husband and I. We took great pride in being able to say "we made that" when people asked where we brought it from.

A planner was not necessary for me. I didnt even talk to one til I was done planning. I priced a DOC, but I still don't know that she's a necessary expense for me.

I didn't do one because I wanted to save money. But I think if I were to do it again, I may have picked one. I just don't like coordinating all of the little details and between all of the vendors. I think if I would have had a coordinator to do those things it would have saved me a little stress.

Totally agree! No planner will put same effort in finding the best priced vendor that also completely fits your personal style & preference, as you would.
I’m keeping in my wedding spreadsheet, just for fun, deals we got on each vendor, just by researching, negotiating & picking services & packages that we actually want & need. So far it’s $10,000 in savings! (we’re in NY, so everything is crazy expensive to begin with lol).
But more importantly, I just can’t imagine someone else picking our venue, photographer, invites, flowers... I’m too particular for that to work 😆

Not necessary. I really feel that the wedding industry, in general, is a black hole for money. Planners are part of that black hole and while I get they need to make a living and it's cool and all I just don't see the use in it. I'm going to want to have my hands in everything anyway. I do see the use of day of coordinators, especially if you don't have someone as a "host." Someone who's disconnected from the party who can make sure the day runs smoothly.

Those are awesome savings anywhere! I didn't keep track of every detail, but I know I've been able to save at least $10,000 just comparing similar services in our area.

Thank you, I’m pretty proud of it 😃 And definitely true about vendor shopping! Some just charge absurd amounts that cannot ever be justified in my opinion, no matter if you have $10,000 or $100,000 budget lol. In every category, I find vendors that I equally like, with comparable experience, reviews & quality of service, but with significantly different prices. Why?! 🤔
