Are wedding favors necessary?

Rachel, on January 27, 2018 at 10:17 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
I have heard that people like wedding favors to have as momentos for the wedding. The thing is that we are on a super tight budget and have to make cuts where we can. I'm wondering are wedding favors absolutely necessary? I can't predict the future but I honestly don't think I will be too mad if I don't have a wedding favor to look back on as we will have pictures and decor etc. But will I look like a jerk if I don't give wedding favors? I do plan on sending out thank you cards obviously to show my appreciation for everyone who came, but I was looking at wedding favors and I'm going to be spending a good 200 or more on them and I already have to pay off my dress purchase my photo booth and DJ (those are the 2 things omg really wanting so my guests can stay busy and have fun)

We are not doing wedding favors. They aren't necessary. I can't think of any that I have kept from weddings I have attended.

Absolutely not necessary! We have a photo booth as well and each guest gets a copy of their photo strip, I’m counting that as our wedding favor... I feel like the majority of ‘favors’ are just clutter that end up getting thrown out. I think a picture of them and their loved ones is the perfect momento

Skip them. They are completely unnecessary.

You don't need them. Unless they're edible, they usually get thrown out or never used. Even some people don't eat edible favors. Save your money.

Unless they are important culturally, they are not necessary and most are a complete waste of money.

We're not doing them. We have containers if people would like to take their dessert to go and glow sticks for out exit that they can play around with lol but other than that, nah. The last wedding we went to was huge, extravagant and major $$ and they didn't do favors. I didn't even think a thing of it until just now. The last wedding we went to that did do favors, they sat in FHs trunk for 9 months.

If you have the money for it then go for it. Most wedding favors are stupid and end up being thrown away. I couldn't tell you about some of the wedding favors I have received at wedding and I can't tell you how many I have actually kept...

We all like to drink and have a good time so were doing simple koozies for fun because we know everyone going to have a drink in their hand through the night and it will be useful.

They're definitely not necessary. If you need to cut them from the budget, go ahead!

I would say either edible or just skip it entirely. I know I don't like favors from weddings and I don't keep them (soaps, beer koozies, match books, no thanks)

Skip them, to be blunt no one really cares. Put your money where people do care - food and drinks.
