Are they necessary???? Direction Cards

QueenThompson, on February 11, 2015 at 5:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

So my co worker showed me her wedding invitations and she included direction cards with her invites. I have been invited to weddings before and they didn't include directions card with their invitations which isn't a problem for me because I can the address in my GPS. However I'm kind of concerned for the older guest.

Did you include direction cards? why or why not?

Nope, not including them. Young people use GPS and older people were able to find addresses before GPS existed.

Nope I'm not. People can use gps, print maps, etc to find the location. No use wasting more money on a 100+ cards.

Nope, I'll put a map on our website though so they can find our site. Not spending the extra $$$!

I'm including them because my venue prints them for free, but otherwise I probably wouldn't.

We are including them, only because the address doesn't show up on a GPS and its in a remote location. We are including them on the back of our invites.

No direction card here. My 80 yr old Nana uses her phone with GPS so I figured everyone else can find it too.

Also bc its a pretty well known place to locals and I know my out of state people are mostly young and use GPS. We didn't like how it wouldn't match the rest of our invite inserts.

Nope, we tested it and the iphone directions work. We'll have balloons/signage to help navigate since it's in a rural area

No not a 'direction' card, however in our invite set it came with 3 inserts. I did an 'accommodation' card which listed hotel info and our wedding website. A reception card, which really was useless because everything is one venue, so I just put 'dinner and dancing immediately to follow - held in the Rose Room', since guests will be switching rooms. And then the 3rd card is obviously the reply card. I love how they look and came out, but I don't think a direction card is necessary when everyone has GPS/smartphones now.

If you have already built a wedding website using this site you can probably create a page for directions. Google Maps and GPS are great now, so don't worry about doing directions card.

I didn't bother to do a directions card, or a reception card since it is where the ceremony is. I also didn't include a return envelope for the RSVP, I just told them to RSVP online at our website.

Thank you ladies so no direction cards it is

@Sarah that's a good idea. I thinking about ordering business cards from vista print for $7.99 for 100 cards and put info on there for them to RSVP via wedding site, phone and or text to save on RSVP's and Stamps

We did directions cards. If you google our venue multiple addresses come up, the actual address and the address of their offices on the other side of town. We also used the directions card to let guests know we will be providing a shuttle between the hotel and the venue.

I put a 1/4 sheet of paper with directions to both venues in there. Not a card, but paper. oh well. Our ceremony venue is on a college campus and not well marked and the reception is about 20 mins away.

So funny I just came here to post this exact question! Obviously I'm leaning toward not doing them.

We included information on our wedding website because the estate where our venue was is quite large and the GPS directions take you to the wrong entrance (which is a safari park - fun!).

I am doing direction cards because my venue is off of several roads that don't show up on GPS. Otherwise I would skip them.

I created a hand drawn map (tracing roads for accuracy) just to show venue airport and 2 hotels so visitors could have an idea. Nothing more.

Nope. I make sure to look up where I'm going ahead of time and then use GPS if I get lost. I trust my guests to do the same. Plus my location was easy to find, on the corner near a major intersection in the city. Not a remote vinyard or hard to find place location.

I would only do them if it's a hard place to find. I'm getting married on my aunts farm in the middle of nowhere so I'm definitely including them!

I included them only in the invitations for out of town guest. We don't get good cell service in the area and if you just type the name of the church into the GPS it doesn't take you to the right place.
