Hello,

First, let me apologize for any grammatical errors and misspellings in this and previous posts. It seems the WW has a gang of self-appointed spelling police.

Just want to get thoughts on picture slideshows at wedding receptions. I was thinking about doing a slideshow on repeat (rather than synchronized with music). Any suggestions/experience on this topic would be helpful.

Thank you in advance for your replies and suggestions.

Honestly, if all the photos are posted on FB or Instagram already, why bother? It would be different if they were photos nobody has ever seen before, and if it were just a rolling thing that people can look at or disregard.

I've always loved them because I have never seen a terrible one. They were always properly set up seamlessly etc.

They are a few minutes long, synced well with music and allows me look into the couple's life, their dating pictures and when they were small etc.

We are planning on having a slideshow during cocktail hour of our guests who are attending and then MAYBE an actual slideshow of us if we can.

I'm just putting an electronic picture frame on the table with our guest book. That way it's not in your face, but a nice little touch of pictures of us with our friends and family.

The most effective use of a slideshow that I've witnessed was one couple who had it playing in the background during their rehearsal dinner. It was in an upscale pool hall and it just ran....people dropped in and out and it worked just fine.

I personally wouldn't stop all action and have everyone sit and watch it. No one is that fascinating, especially in grade school.

    Sorry.

But look at it this way; it's one less thing to do.....

I like them but I guess I'm a sap lol. If put to music and nice and short, I think they give a cute look into people's lives. In Belgium it's usually done by the BP and it might be shown after dinner or between courses.

I actually love slide shows as long as I'm not forced to watch them, if it's on say during cocktail hour or just playing somewhere where I can watch when I want that's good Smiley smile

I'm also not a fan. I went to a wedding a few months ago, and they had a slideshow playing behind the table where their dessert bar was. But I didn't even notice it until the wedding was almost over, because my table and several others couldn't see that wall from where we were sitting. Maybe have it playing in the background at the rehearsal? Or cocktail hour? But I wouldn't have one at the reception.

My FH has made a bunch of video slideshows (with wonderful music cues) for each of his niece's bridal showers. We wouldn't use one for a wedding though.

I don't love them but my mom and all my parents friends do!! If you want to do one I think the best way is to have it off to the side or in another little area playing on repeat like you said. That way during the reception if people want to drift over and watch it they can!

I don't like the ones where you have a person narrating each and every picture. You waste like an hour of reception time just listening to corny jokes about every pic. If your going have one just let it play in the background and people can look at it as they please.

We're just going have a few pics of us in a couple of frames on the card/gift table.

Our DJ did one for us...he had built a big screen for the front of his DJ booth and wanted to test it out...we sent a bunch of photos to him and he had it playing on repeat throughout the reception. I wouldn't have wanted it if there was music attached and everyone had to stop what they were doing to watch. Ours just played in the background, as part of the decor.

My DJ is going to be taking pics (unprofessionally... That's just what he does) of people at the reception and live streaming them on the 2 small screens my venue has. Not to music and not forcing people to sit down and watch, it will just be something in the background, which I think is cool! But making guests sit and watch the life story of the bride and groom kind of gets long and boring. My FILs did this at FH's grandparents 50th anniversary party and the slideshow was like 25 minutes long! All I wanted to do was get up and get another drink but I couldn't

Not a fan of slideshows any more. I feel like the only people who pay attention to them are the bride and groom.

I like them at rehearsal dinners. But not weddings.

I like them playing in the background. I have seen one at a wedding of a friend and they had it playing during dinner and I liked it. We are having one just in the background during our rehearsal dinner with photos of us and anyone that will be there, just because the place we are having our RD has a big tv screen and it will look better in the room with something like that playing. Not a big deal, but I do enjoy them in the background. I am surprised more people don't!

If a slideshow is important to you, I think that PP have offered a good compromise. Have it playing somewhere, but don't make it "mandatory." The guests who like them will find it and enjoy, and the people who don't won't feel obligated to sit quietly and feign enjoyment. It seems to be common in my area to play them before or after toasts, but this is too long to require guests' attention in my opinion.

Oh and by the way, some of the slideshows pp mentioned sound horrifying. Too long and narrative? No thanks. Now I know why some dislike it in general.

I wouldn't want my guests sitting around staring at a screen of some old photos they probably already saw on my Facebook. I want them to enjoy the night!

I tend to enjoy them during cocktail hour where its just happening. It's always fun to look up from a conversation and get a quick 'aw' or laugh. However, I can't stand 10 minute slideshows where the DJ announces them and we're forced to watch to music in silence. That's too much.
