Are programs worth it?

This may be an unpopular opinion, but are programs really worth it for the wedding? Seems like they end up in the recycle by the end of the night. Debating on scrapping them.

So not necessary in my opinion. Waste of time, money and paper

Depends on what type of ceremony you have. I wasn’t going to do them but then I attended the wedding of one of FH’s cousin. It was a full Catholic mass and none of FH’s family is Catholic. They had no idea what was going on. We are having a Catholic ceremony so now I’ll be doing them just so they can follow along if they want.

We didn't do them--i find them totally unnecessary. we used an old mirror to write down our timeline and another to list the WP and other VIPs.

I will have them - but only because 1) I'm having a Lutheran ceremony 2) my dad's side of the family is Jewish, and 3) it's not at the church where everyone can pull out the hymnals 😜

I really like this idea! I don't want to waste paper on programs, but this is a nice way to give acknowledgement.

We're not having them I don't see much of a point unless you're day is really complex

Not mine, I found it on Pinterest! However, I have seen these on etsy, if that helps - it is very pretty and definitely will be having something similar to this at our wedding. :Smiley shame

We did them but mainly because we had a religious ceremony with some additional features that we wanted our guests to be able to follow along.

I think you could totally skip them if you want to. We are diying hand fans since we are having an outdoor ceremony. The sticks are super cheap on Amazon and like $15 for cardstock..definitely cheap enough for me to not think twice! ☺

Yes, this. I know everyone will be talking and they won't have to wait long in their seats, but I love the idea of something to read!

And where are you getting paper fans from? Something else I was thinking about!

I’m making my own with publisher and printing them for a few cents each so the cost is negligible

Not at all necessary. I'm undecided, but I think I want them to give credit to our friend who will be playing a song and our friend who will be doing a short reading in Italian among other things. If we do, I will make them and print them myself. I'm no professional by any means, but I've done things like this before and feel comfortable with it.

Not worth it. I am not into the trend of making a sign for every little thing but I am thinking about doing just a sign with basically the same info as a program.

I have kept every program and all corresponding invitations, name cards and thank you cards from every wedding I've been to as an adult. I enjoy the details like that - sometimes great thought and creative ideas have been put into them. I make a special page in my scrapbooks for each wedding and include a photo or two from the actual day.

I understand that they are extra cost and generally get trashed but I plan on making my own and will be glad to have one for my photos and wedding album.

That being said - I am seeing the trend of just having the one big sign listing the important details either at the entrance or at the beginning of the aisle.

Nope! Save the money. Only a few save them and the rest go in the trash

We decided not to have programs for two reasons. 1) I've been to weddings where I didn't realize they had programs (they were off to the side for people to grab and go), and 2) I've seen them left behind. We are going with the absolute necessary day-of stationery place cards for each person (caterers request so they identify entree selection), table numbers and menus (because it ties in nicely with black tie optional).
