Are programs worth it?

This may be an unpopular opinion, but are programs really worth it for the wedding? Seems like they end up in the recycle by the end of the night. Debating on scrapping them.

Thanks. I saw them on orientaltrading.com, personalized for $15 a doz. I figured I could make my own, since i have leftover cardstock and wrapping paper. Just printed them out on my printer and glued on a tongue depresser. Since my wedding is in August, I figured they'd be appreciated.

We had them, and I don't regret doing them, but unless you really want them, they really aren't necessary.

Nah, the money on programs can definitely be used for more important things!

We're going to purchase a program sign from Etsy or just go without!

Not doing them since we aren't really doing anything out of the ordinary. At recent weddings I've attended, I don't think there were programs, and no one seemed to miss having an extra paper to carry around.

We skipped them and I have no regrets. They're entirely unnecessary unless you're having a very long cultural or religious ceremony, where your guests might not be familiar with all the different components. But for your standard civil ceremony? Skip 'em.

If I do anything, it will probably be like this. Thanks! It's a smaller wedding with only 2 people in the wedding parties.

    Thanks!

Nope. I'm not even doing a sign. People know how a wedding works.

If you're having the average/traditional ceremony experience and aren't doing any sort of religious traditions that can be explained by your officiant in the ceremony, don't do them. personally i think they're a waste of money. older guests may appreciate them, however most (like, 98% of) guests know how a wedding works. they're definitely not necessary, but if you want them, of course get them. Smiley smile

I had some leftover cardstock from another DIY wedding project, and some wrapping paper in my colors. I'm putting a piece of wrapping paper on one side of the cardstock, and the program, that I typed up and printed out, on the other side. Gluing a fat craft stick/tongue depresser between the layers.

So I'm having a Catholic mass and nonCatholic people will not know what is going on so my program tells them, also has the history of the church because it was built in 1854.

My best friends who had a same sex wedding had THE BEST programs ever. They had sections that explained everything in a lighthearted way, which was a nice break from the very emotional ceremony. Agreed with PPs, unless your ceremony is a little different, or extremely religious where things might need explained, I'd skip it. If you're having the standard 15-20 minute non-religious/semi-religious ceremony then I'd skip it. Programs get through out, unfortunately.

I think programs are useless. I would lose it by the end of the night.

I did see some hella cute ideas on Pinterest that instead of handing out programs, justhave a sign that says who is who, and the timeline!
