Are garters necessary?

Renee2014, on December 19, 2013 at 10:38 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24

We decided not to do bouquet toss and garter toss because almost all our friends are married already. So if no toss then I don't even want to waste time with taking the garter off. I would rather keep people dancing and having fun then take the time to do it. Anyone else skip the garter all together? Did you still wear one if you didn't do it? What's the point of it anyways? Thanks in advance!

I am not wearing one and we are not doing a toss. I am not wearing pantyhose because my FH would literally choose to divorce me on the spot so I don't need anything to hold them up!

Yup skipped it altogether. And no I did not wear one, I have really fat legs and it would have served no purpose since I had bear legs anyway.

You definitely don't need to wear a garter if you're not doing a toss.

Here's an interesting read on the tradition of the wedding garter:

To get married, all you need is the license, a witness and a person of authority to sign off on it. Everything else is fluff. That said, I like the fluff. So no, garters are not necessary. I'm not doing one nor am I throwing my bouquet. It's a brooch bouquet and I might knock someone out.

I am 90% sure I am skipping the garter. We may do an anniversary dance to give away the bouquet but the garter thing skeeves me out a bit. And if we aren't doing a toss, I'm not going to have some unnecessary piece of fabric on my leg Smiley tongue

If you aren't doing the toss, and don't have "stockings" to keep up, then there is no point other than looking cute or sexy, if you're into that look.

I'm not wearing a garter... I personally find the whole garter toss thing awkward and don't see the point of it. I'd rather save the taking off the underthings for the wedding night and not the wedding! Smiley winking

Nooo, I meant the hilarious mental image of you tossing your brooch bouquet and knocking like 6 people out.

Oh! My bad. Yeah, a lawsuit would not be a great start to a union of families.

I think we are skipping it altogether and I'm not planning on wearing one. We are thinking of incorporating some kind of other "game" like a limbo contest or busting open a pinata haha. We're weirdos like that.

Nope not needed at all especially if you aren't doing the toss (which is awful anyway)

I'll be wearing stockings but will be wearing suspenders to keep them up
