Are cascading bouquets outdated??

Jolene, on November 28, 2012 at 8:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

I love the way they look and that is what I have ordered, but I haven't seen anyone with one in forever.

I also like that it will be big so it will help cover up my fat belly when I walk down the aisle.

This is my inspiration pic.

Mine will be all white.

First of all: Stop being so self-conscious! =] I don't know if they're outdated but I haven't really seen any either. But I do really like them! If it's what you like go for it!

I think going off "trends," yes, cascading bouquets are becoming a little dated. I am also personally not a fan of them, however if you love it, then you should go for it.

Thanks Brittany. I have already ordered it, but I was sitting here thinking and I thought "I haven't seen one in a while". So, like everything else, I like it and am doing it, just wondering if my guests would be sitting there saying, "who does that anymore?."

    Just curious. lol

Who cares if you haven't seen one in a while? If you love it that's what matters Smiley smile

I think they're pretty, but too elegant for me and my sunflower wedding.

Belle Magazine did a blog post on them last year that had a few that looked a little more current compared to the ones in the past.

Thanks Ashley. I feel the same way.

On a thread a few days ago, someone told me my ring was old fashioned. I said, "I am old, so that could be the reason" lol

I do love the cascading bouquets and it is being made by a local company here, so it will be old fashioned too. But if it looks like I want it to I will be happy.

Thanks for the input ladies Smiley smile)))

They're not my cup of tea, but I've seen a lot of "modern" bouquets that are not my cup of tea either. I don't think cascades necessarily have to look outdated. IMO it's just an expression of your style and if it's mixed in with fresh/modern things, it will look just as beautiful as anyone else's bouquet.

If you love cascades, go for it. I think floral is one of the few areas of a wedding where it is, in fact, YOUR DAY, and you can do what you want! Smiley winking

Post lots of flower pics, I want to see them! My Oma had a cascading bouquet at her wedding in the 30s, and my mom copied that bouquet when she got married in the 60s. I personally liked the fluffy/garden look better for my own wedding, but their bouquets were beautiful! And you never know, it could be one of those "vintage" things that's circling around again, as a lot of things do.

And quit worrying about your belly, you're going to look great, silly!!!

I still make cascade bouquets probably more than the rounds. It is really the brides choice.

I have had brides say they are slimming. Maybe thats why mine was a cascade too.

Remember your guests arent on wedding boards or look at wedding blogs! They are not going to know the difference, they are just going to see pretty flowers! Smiley smile Do what you want and love. Anything "dated" can have a modern twist with the right vision/artist.

If that is what you want you should have it! As far as being outdated - even in they are - who cares? I am wearing mary janes and tights with my dress - HELLLLOOO 1990's! But FH and I were both grunge kids and still love the music and style to this day. It's what we wear - it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks!!!

I with HoundMama on this!!! Do what you want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am pretty over worrying what will this person think or what this other person is going to think!!! I thought the wedding was about love and not people being all stuck up like : "Ewww, that is so dated..." It should be about making memories. We are regular people and not celebrities. It is so really silly!!! I love these bouquets by the way!!!! DO WHAT YOU WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Smiley smile

If it's what you want, who cares? It's your wedding. I had a friend who had one (she's barely five foot and the thing almost reached the ground. About the only downside I can see with them (and part of why I am not having one) is that they are heavy. I was the MOH for that girl and had to hold it through most of the ceremony. Tell your MOH to start practicing with a gallon jug of water. That way she'll be ready.

I love the cascading bouquets much better than most of the hand tied / round I have seen. Plus, I plan to lay mine in the middle of the bridal party table during the reception as part of the table decor. I'm really skinny, so mine probably will be a small / scaled down version of a cascade because I don't want to be hidden behind it, but I am hoping it will help add some shape and depth to my skinny frame.

Mine was a cascade, everyone loved how pretty the flowers and seashells looked.

Honestly, as a florist (and being 25), I LOVE cascades for the bride, and believe it or not, they are making a BIG comeback. They aren't necessarily the typical style of their previous hayday, but they're a tailored, classy take on the cascade. Regardless of that fact, it is your day, and if you want a flamingo-shaped ice sculpture, by golly, you should have one! Smiley smile
