Are aisle runners a necessity for indoor venue?

Pancakes, on August 26, 2015 at 1:35 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 33

I didn't think about purchasing an aisle runner. Seems like an unnecessary expense to me and it doesn't sound like something I can resell and I just don't want to spend any more money. Our ceremony will be in the same room as the reception. The tables will be set up, but the chairs will be in rows on the dance floor (see the picture attached. That is the other party room, but same idea for set up). Should we have one? I really don't know, since this set up isn't very typical. I guess the two weddings I have been to where the ceremony is in the same room, they have had one. But, I mean, more money :/

I don't ever think an aisle runner is necessary! When chairs are set up for a wedding, it is obvious where the aisle is. I also think it is an unnecessary expense. They can be beautiful but I wouldn't worry about not having one.

People recommended it to me because if the guests have dirt on their shoes and it gets on the floor, the aisle runner (which is laid out right before you walk down the aisle) will cover any of that up and keep your dress clean. Good idea if it rains (or snows in my case). Our florist is including one in her package for less than $50 and two groomsmen will be in charge of rolling it out.

I don't like aisle runners. I think they are outdated and usually scrunch up and make pictures eh. I wouldn't use one.

I'm not having one. I don't need any additional tripping hazards! I don't wear heels too often and the floor at our venue is large slate squares. It's beautiful but a bit uneven. I'm going with 2-3" heels max!

I bought one because my planner suggested it. It's 3ft x 50ft..i'll sell it to you after my wedding if you want!

I'm not doing one because I think they look dated, and I don't want to give myself anything more to trip over.

I'd skip it too. Most venues have beautiful floors anyway. I see it as more of a slip hazard vs a trip hazard. You're paying for a piece of fabric to be dirtied anyway.

Don't need it. Just decorate the outside parts of the aisle. You'll be fine.

I'm not crazy about aisle runners and don't think they are totally necessary. I'm getting turf (fake grass) as an aisle runner, I think it will look good on the concrete terrace. It will add a pop pf color.

Skip it. No need for something additional to trip or slip on. I did line my aisle with flower petals. It helped define the aisle, but not needed.

Phew. I really didn't feel like getting one. And I agree, the tripping hazard of it worries me. I don't wear heels and I have 1 inch heels that day. I wore 3 inch heels to my friend's wedding who had one and I tripped on the aisle runner getting to our seats :/

The venue is half hardwood, half carpet. It's kind of out dated, but it has a roof and the price is good, so yeah. Lol. We aren't doing chair covers and bows, though. The chairs are fine without the extra $500 for those things!!! That probably makes it easier for the staff to move the chairs back to the tables after the ceremony, too. I can't imagine moving chairs with covers and bows is as easy or quick!

    Thanks, everyone!

@FutureMrs.L - Just checked ebay and they are like $30. So it'd be cheaper for me to buy new than worry about shipping yours. But thanks for the offer!

    @JenW - ..... decorate the aisle.....?! Uhhh.... I didn't think of that :/

DH was in a wedding in February where they had one. The tape from the runner got stuck to his foot and he fell down. I had to get he tape off his foot and put the runner back down. Almost every person after him tripped over it. I would say not needed!

Of course I read this the day my aisle runner comes in the mail! It was less than $30 and we have absolutely no decor or flowers for our ceremony space so I thought what the hell? Except now everyone is talking about tripping and I am in a cast from breaking my foot and being a spaz so I am kinda freaking out about limping down the aisle and then tripping over the GD unnecessary aisle runner. lolzzzzz

FH and I are having one. It was custom made for us and I will be using it. I don't think it is a necessity though.

I am naturally super clumsy and I imagine that the combination of being nervous, wearing a huge dress and high heels will only exacerbate that. Definitely gonna skip the aisle runner. I want to decorate the chairs along the aisles instead (hopefully I'll figure out something cost-effective).
