Appropriate Size of Wedding Invitations?

Nikki, on January 12, 2017 at 5:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I've been looking over wedding invitations and the ones we like come in sizes 5 x 7 and 4 1/2 x 6(petite). Which one is more appropriate or is more likely sent??

I believe 5 x 7 is the "traditional" size. The petite ones usually save you a little money and they're barely smaller, so not noticeable.

Try ordering samples of both. I didn't think it was a big difference in theory, but when I saw them, I preferred the text size on the 5x7

Check out the USPS website. I forget which size, but you'll have to pay more postage, with bigger invitations. Or rectangular ones, as I found out the hard way. Smiley sad

I think you pay more for square, not rectangle. And i think it has more to do with weight than size. So you could end up paying more for a smaller size paper if it is a higher weight than the larger paper...if that makes sense lol

It's definitely the square sizes you pay more for. It cost .68¢ to send the square save the dates. When we agreed them the weight would have been fine, but it's more for non standard sizes.

I got the petites for my save the dates on minted.com and would NOT do petites again for my real invitations. The pictures turn out differently than the online proof because of the size. It also doesn't save you any money on postage, which was totally disappointing. I plan on doing normal size for my invitations.
