Anyone wishing they would have eloped instead?

I wanted a Church wedding so our family & friends could be there to share our special day with us but the closer it gets the more i wish i would have eloped with just the two of us. I wanted a Church wedding so our family & friends could be there to share our special day with us but the closer it gets the more i wish i would have eloped with just the two of us. I had no idea something that is suppose to be a happy occasion would turn into me wishing we wouldn't have decided to go this way.I am so tired of all the "you should have done this instead of the church wedding" and the "you need to do this instead of that" crap. I'm also sick of being told my wedding has turned into a big mess. FH & I decided we wanted a church wedding but we never knew when we chose the church wedding so many people would be so negative and try to run things.I am so sick of people saying why is this person invited? they just now started having something to do with you and they weren't there before" I 'm aware of who and who hasn't been there for me until lately. i am especially tired of my brother saying he won't come to my wedding because i wasnt able to be here for his bday end of rant

I don't think we should elope because I want our family there, but I wish I would put my foot down with the plans we were wanting because I've allowed my family (mostly my mom) to influence our guest list being she and my dad are paying for it... I should have said no to more than I did... Sorry you are going through this.

Mallori-i have my dream dress & want the photos too!

We'llAlwaysHaveParis- I mentioned it to FH & he wasn't for it! It would have been less stressful and a lot easier.

Starbuck- I had no idea how much weddings cost until i started planning my own. I hope it all works out! I agree about the memories part Smiley smile

Kiley- That would be very tempting!

Stacy- Our wedding started out small and went from 20- 60 people! I wouldn't mind people giving suggestions but they say things like "You need to do this" or "you need to do that".. I have gotta stop letting the guests trying to play wedding planners stress me out ..

Angel- i know exactly how you feel. Seems like when you get one problem solved another comes along. i feel like i have no support except from FH.

Rev. Ann Fuller- LOL! If it wasn't for this site i wouldn't have no where to vent. i've been thinking of getting a stress ball and every time something happens instead of getting upset just squeeze squeeze squeeze the stress ball!

Kim- thanks. Sorry about what happened. I want our families there too that's why we switched from the courthouse to a Church wedding..Some are happy we changed but others have been aggravated with it for months.. I am also nervous because the wedding will be the first time our families have ever came together and actually met..

I'm a month into the engagement and am already entertaining thoughts of elopement, and this is after we already told people that we didn't want to! (It's the most logical solution, as we're in a different country, but I wanted a big wedding.)

My family and friends have been great. It's the crazy people online (other websites; this is my first post here, so I don't know about this place yet Smiley winking ) that have gotten to me. Pathetic, I know, and I usually have a thick skin, especially with regards to people I've never met in real life, but for some reason, probably because it's something as personal as my wedding, the online attacks and bullying really got to me this time. I'm not sure how to let it roll off my back, get back on track, and just enjoy planning our wedding anymore. Smiley sad

All the damn time! I initially wanted to elope and have a party afterwards. FH and my mom said hell no. That's not saying I don't love the wedding... I do. And I know I'll love our special day.

But I have my moments when dealing with planning BS that I wish we'd taken all this money and gone to Europe for a month instead.

It's mostly when I think about how much money FH is spending.

I'm just glad that we didn't have to scrimp on our honeymoon. I still get my balcony suite on the cruise ship. If I'd have had to settle for inside just to be able to afford the wedding we'd have eloped already lol.

To be honest all the drama is what gets me... turns a happy occasion into a sad one & kinda ruins it.... we are unsure of when we will get to go on the honeymoon because of FH's work... We chose Key West...Sounds like a nice honeymoon you have planned Smiley smile..i would have rather eloped and avoided all the complaining and fighting lol..

Just say focused on the goal-- as long as you're married at the end of the day, and most people, most importantly you and your husband, have fun, it was a good wedding. Cake/flowers/colors/invitations don't make you any more married.

Totally agree Zoe. And it's not those details that seem to get most of us down. Like Jessica mentioned... it's the complaining from other people and the drama. Uuugh.

We have our wedding licence and our rings... maybe I can talk FH into going to the courthouse after work tomorrow?? Smiley laugh

Good advice Zoe. To be honest i was talking to my cousin about the wedding today and i told her i'll be honest my centerpieces came from Dollar Tree but they will be gorgeous.... I thought the complaining/drama would eventually go away but it's been months and it's still here...like today a family member told me i shouldn't be getting married but then turned around and asked where her invitation was!!...I wish my FH would go for that but he won't! lol Smiley laugh

This is my second wedding my first was an elope so I am excited about the experience, even though at times it's stressful. Luckily I don't have anyone in my ear during this process so it's not too bad on my end. I just wish I had more money so I could do more things I would like lol.

I hope it gets better for you. I think the only beef I have had is we have a 5K budget so I get people all the time giving me ideas on how to go cheap most are things I don't want to do. I just have to tell myself they mean well... ugh. I am with Lynds th less I tell the better it seems sometimes.

Thank you Smiley smile i have someone trying to tell me what flavor cake to get & that i shouldn't get decorations on it... that annoys me... i'm getting what flavor FH & I want...i want it decorated too so if she don't like it she don't have to eat it lol...i'm just sick of all the unwanted opinions from guests...

Jessica- No one has actually said to me that I need to do this or that. I consider their opinions in my decisions. Mostly, my FMIL has given me her opinion when I wasn't sure what to do about something. Not many people have even offered to help with planning but I'm fine with that. I've helped plan 3 weddings now so it's not my first rodeo. It is very stressful to plan a wedding each time though, especially if it's your own wedding. We mostly wanted to elope to save money but we changed our minds.
