Anyone know if these websites are legit or a scam?

Samantha, on May 30, 2016 at 9:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I was looking for cheaper wedding dresses. My FH and I changed our minds and deciding to elope this summer so I want to find a wedding dress for cheap. Looking at these websites and wondering if anyone has used them and knows whether they are legit or not. Tbdress.com , vividress.co.uk , ericdress.com

I'd avoid that. Get yourself to a good department store (like Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, etc) and find a nice white dress.

Idk about those sites but mod cloth has beautiful dresses for weddings that are cheap. They also have ton of reviews. I haven't bought a wedding style dress there but I've bought cocktail dresses and they're wondfully made

I'll pretty sure those are all counterfeit sites. I'd stay away. ETA: check pre-owned dress sites, department stores, modcloth, etsy

Yeahhh I'd not use those. If you don't necessarily want a bridal gown, you could get a nice white maxi dress that would still look beautiful but wouldn't cost you an arm and a leg.

I'd avoid those sites, sometimes the dress quality is terrible and/or the shipping wait time is forever. I got my dress at Macy's and there are other department stores with inexpensive white dresses. There are also bridal consignment shops.

I've also gotten dresses from Modcloth, and the site is good about having a lot of user reviews and people sending in pictures so you can get a feel about how the dresses look on different body types.

How much are you wanting to spend? I looked at etsy to see what dresses they had, and read a million reviews, even Googled reviews about wedding dresses bought on etsy and overall people are happy with what they get. They're the real deal and are 200-300 dollars and the seller will contact you and get your measurements via phone and nobody has complained so far

If you're not married to the idea of buying a dress (pun intended!), you can rent one from Rent the Runway. They rent designer dresses for about $150 or less for four days and they send you two sizes... just in case.

I was considering buying a dress from vividress.co.uk, and there were a couple red flags that deterred me:

*We googled reviews of the website and found very mixed experiences- but the bad experiences significantly outweighed the good, and the bad were mostly VERY bad.

*The website is domained in the UK. However, when we sent a message inquiring about making a few alterations to the dress, the first message we received back was in Chinese. Like, legit Chinese. They sent a follow up email in somewhat broken English.

*The website said that we could get fabric swatches to check color. We asked for samples of both champagne and ivory chiffon and were told that they didn't have swatches available for the fabric type or color....how are you going to make me a dress if you don't have the fabric? Also, I remember there being something extremely off-putting about how they wanted us to pay for the swatches (that they didn't have).

Overall, I just didn't get a good feeling about the interactions and decided to go to David's Bridal instead. I got myself a beautiful dress at one of their sales, and I paid less than $400, walked out of the store with it that day.

If you want an alternative to a bridal salon, I agree with the PP in recommending Modcloth! I love their dresses and all the reviews and user photos are great in helping you know what you're getting, and the prices are quite reasonable. And these days they've really bulked up their selection of Bridal attire.

I would never purchase my dress online without seeing it in person first, but that's just me. I find it too risky for the amount of money you are spending.

If you don't recognize the name of the website, you should avoid it. Even if you have read positive reviews online. Places like lightinthebox and sammydress have it set so bad reviews aren't shown and then they write their own good reviews. I've heard bad things about Chinese sites like that. On the rare occasion that the clothing does look remotely similar to the pictures, it's so cheaply made its still shit.

I found my dress on etsy, where it was sold by a legitimate seamstress with a good solid business. Her website is ieiebridal.com. my dress is beautifully made and I couldn't be happier.

I'd stick with the saying "if it's too good to be true, then it probably isnt"

I just bought my dress from an online retailer that was $1000 less than at David's bridal. HUGE MISTAKE. now i'm definitely regretting it and feeling like a complete tool. They're making it difficult for me to get a refund. just move along, sister. Let me lesson be your lesson and my lesson be anyone else's lesson who comes across this warning!
