Anyone having a morning wedding/ reception?

Ghia, on April 8, 2009 at 12:14 AM Posted in Planning 1 14

I just changed my wedding from an evening to a late morning wedding. I did it to save money on the reception and I saved $1000! There are some cons such as having to wake up extra early and not being able to "dance the night away." But there are pros too like saving money, spending all night with my hubby, etc...

Why did you choose a morning wedding? Pros? Cons?

I'm choosing to do a morning wedding.

    Pros:

-Breakfast food is always cheaper than dinner food offered.

    - No need for an open bar. Who is gonna be hitting the hard liquor before noon?

    - Something seems symbolically right about a wedding with the sun 'rising' on your wedding and marriage rather than an evening 'setting' sun.

    - Have the afternoon to chill/fly/sleep, etc.

-Gives family a chance to fly out/drive out if they need to be back somewhere the next day and still get some sleep that night, too.

    Cons:

    - Getting up early. Neither the groom nor I are morning people. Smiley tongue

    - No time to change/fix problems or occurrences in the morning in contrast to have all day for an evening wedding.

Our ceremony starts at 11am with the reception immediatly to follow. We saved on money for our reception. People dont expect to have a full plated service for lunch, so we are going buffet style.

Our ceremony is in an arboretum, so flowers just look better in the morning with fresh dew on everything.

We get to have the rest of the day to giggle and call each other Mr & Mrs Demmons.

We get more hours to um...."consumate"...the marriage...LOL

My wedding will be at 11am with reception right after. The big pro for me is that the place we're having it is on the water and has an amazing view - so, weather permitting, we'll be able to enjoy the day and the views until it's over! It's also leaving us time to have an after-party at our cottage rental. Just a way to extend the festivities!

We chose an 11am ceremony & lunch reception as well. Although I am not a morning person usually, I'm a huge fan of natural light. We're having the ceremony in a hotel, but there space has a glass ceiling to let in the sun, and the reception will be in their restaurant with high ceilings and pretty much floor to ceiling windows so guest will be able to take in the fall foilage as well. It'll be really relaxing and cozy. Plus, the menu is definitely lighter, therefore cheaper. Another rather important reason, my FH doesn't drink and prefers not to be around those who are drinking, it's easier to get away with not serving alcohol during the day (also less expensive) and people can live it up at the hotel bar once we leave for the honeymoon.

    Hey,

I'm having a 10:30 wedding and a Noon reception. We choose it because we wanted the reception in a restaurant and because alot of them arn't big with lunch then it was cheeper to shut down the restaunt for us! The pros are it is cheaper and there will be more time to relax afterwards. We are going on a cruise the next morning so it will be nice to get a "good nights rest" before. We also booked a fancy hotel for that night so since we will be there early we can enjoy the hotel to its fullest! One con is also the morning of you ahve to run around alot to get everything ready so since it is a morning wedding you may have to assign that task to someone not in the bridal party since they don't have to get ready as much! A lunch reception is less formal so if that is your guys attitudes then go for it!

We are doing an 11:30 ceremony, 12-1 cocktail hour, 1-5 reception all at the same venue.

The major pro is that it saved us thousand of dollars!

The cons are: I'm a little worried people won't have as much fun (like the above poster- no "dancing the night away,") there is no time for pics before ceremony, and I've heard its tougher to get great pictures where there is so much light outside.

But we saved so much money that is was so worth it!

We are opting for a morning wedding because it's going to be a small, intimate ceremony, and we wanted to take everyone out for Brunch or a Luncheon afterward. Neither I nor my FH are very big into all-out bashes, so we're opting for a quiet ceremony and reception. Also, it will give us time to file paperwork and drive to the airport.

It's funny that so many of your are doing an 11 am ceremony, I thought I was the only one. I like the idea now and the savings are incredible. Glad to hear that others have made the same choice!

We orginially had planned an evening wedding too but because of another party there that evening we wanted the place to ourselves so moved it up till 12:30pm. I didnt really want to at first but i am glad we did it now its gonna be a long week leading up to it and now we'll have some time to relax and spend some time together that evening.

I'm having an early wedding as well. It definitely saved us alot of money as well which is why we went for it. But also I look forward to spending the rest of day with my new husband and settling in to our new place together.....and relaxing before going to the honeymoon. It's perfect I think.

Like many others here, we are doing an 11 AM wedding with reception immediately following. The main reason for my choice was the availability of our venue. There is another wedding there that night, so if I wanted that day, we had to do a daytime wedding and be out by 4 PM. I wasn't thrilled at first, but I like it now. We are having an informal wedding, so daytime works well. I'm not normally a morning person, but I will probably be so anxious that I will probably be up early and just ready to get going. I think I would go nuts all day if I had an evening wedding.

We did the morning wedding ceremony is at 10:30 to save on money, but I was upset about the whole not being able to "dance the night away" so we decided to let everyone know (by word of mouth) that we are going to a bar close by that has a dance floor. This way we get to save the money and have time to our selves but still get to dance and party with our guest.
