Anyone have an alternative for removing the garter?

mrs mom, on July 6, 2011 at 7:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

My FH really wants to do the toss and I'm fine with the toss just not the removal part. I am not comfortable with the whole removing the garter thing in front of everyone I know. Has anyone seen or heard of a creative alternative to removing it in front of everyone?

We aren't doing the garter toss we are auctioning it off(pretty common thing to do around here). As far as the removal, I have heard and plan on doing it, that if you don't want your groom going way up your dress to remove it, just put it down on your calf, that way you can just lift your dress up a little bit.

    XD

Slip it to him, or have him kneel down and remove it from your calf or ankle?

Softtail, that makes too much sense! I would still probably have to lecture him to behave himself and not embarrass me though.

Savanna, you definitely want to do that. My FH's friends mentioned that he should remove it with his teeth. I objected (of course)

    Savanna,

When a child catches the garter, we have him place it on the lady's wrist. You could do the same with the removal. Have your hubby kiss your hand and then remove the garter from your wrist.

I had no clue I was supposed to put it up to the umm top of my thighs, so just had it on the ankle (not trying to be modest, just thought that's how it was).

Re the wrist, that is a good idea!

In my younger days, removal wouldn't bother me. But, at my age now, I really don't need the added exposure.

I am also wearing a garter and not tossing it. I sewed my "something blue"(a blue ribbon), my gold Italian horn, and my gold Miraculous Medal on it. This way I have it for my daughter.

A friend of mine who recently got married suggested you get 2. one to wear and one to remove/throw. She found it kind of creepy that they guy who caught it came to talk to her about it days later, and told her he still has it!

I like the wrist idea. Another idea is to move it down to your calf/ankle and if you dont want people focusing so much on the removal have a little fun and have it planned out that where ever you sit theres a bag of funny stuff under your dress and have him pull out random things ( measuring tape, an apple, toothbrush, etc)..... the attention will be more on the humor in it all rather than everyone thinking about him taking it off your leg.

That's what I should do, turn the tables on David and have him wear the garter, though embarrassing him would be extremely difficult!

You could have him wear it on his arm, like the cowboy guys did, back in the day...They wore those black garters around their biceps...to hold their sleeves up or something...My Grandpa cowboy shoots, so that's the only reason I know that. haha.

I found these alternatives to the removal of the garter.

Balloon Garter Drop - This works best in a facility with high ceilings. Decorators take a large balloon and fill it with several smaller balloons. One of the smaller balloons holds the garter. The larger balloon makes a nice decoration as well. The groom then takes a long pole with a pin on the end and breaks the larger balloon. All the smaller balloons fall to the ground and the bachelors have to search for and break the smaller containing the garter.

Bouquet & Garter Switch - Switch EVERYTHING! Have the Bride remove the garter from the GROOM'S leg! Have her toss it to the single ladies! Have the GROOM toss the bouquet to the single men!
