Anyone else NOT doing a bridal shower and/or engagement party?

T&J, on May 10, 2010 at 2:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 50

My dad keeps busting my chops about not having an engagement party and/or bridal shower, i guess his side of the family keeps asking if i'm having those parties. Truth is I just want to save people money, and it took me FOREVER to put 50 things on a registry that i did only because people kept asking where i was registered. My dad comes from Long Island, NY and I guess it's a custom up there to have an engagement party and bridal shower...but i live in Central PA people don't have engagement parties here and a bridal shower just seems like something i'm not into. Anyone else skipping these 2 things?

Yes, we skipped them because we did a honeymoon registry. Also, it just wasn't important to us either.

First of all-I live in central PA, too!!!! I'm in Altoona area! Where are you?!?!?!? We did an engagement party, but really just an excuse to have our party with our two families. We're not doing a bridal shower. We really just don't need anything.

No Engagement Party and a tiny little Bridal Shower. Like less than 10 people.

We are skipping on the engagement and bridal parties..but we are doing a Stag & Doe to help raise money for the wedding itself. It's a popular thing to do in our area, everyone expects a Stag & Doe over anything else here.

I had such a hard time picking things for the registry ... I told myself I'd work on it today but I'm on here instead LOL my priorities are a little off I think.

Having neither. I agree about saving people money not to mention I don't think we really need that many items either.

Didn't have an engagement party, don't know about the bridal shower, that's up to the girls.

We skipped the engagement party. With less than a year to plan the wedding, we both didn't want to bother with it.

I could have done without a shower but my friend insisted that I have one. But I refused to be involved in the planning at all other than providing a guest list and menu suggestions.

FSILs are talking about doing something really simple for bachelorette but again... I can take it or leave it. If I have to be involved in any of the planning, I don't want it.

We didn't have an engagement party, just announced it to both our families and they were both really happy. I don't really want a Bridal party either. If I get one, it'll be a surprise.

We're doing an engagement party, but it just an excuse to party and have friends over more than anything. I'm not expecting any gifts and there's not really anything we need, so that's what I'm telling them. It's also a chance to have people over now that we've gotten most of our home improvements done. With all the work we've put in, we needed a chance to relax with friends and family and any excuse to eat and get together will do. LOL

Engagment parties aren't the norm around here, but bridal showers and bachelorette parties are, they'r eusually held on the sames day. I think they're fun, but if you're not into them, then don't have one! My wonderful MOH is planning mine, and I'm super excited! Even if my SIL had a crap fit because it was on the same day a wedding her nad my brohter are to attend. It was the only day that worked for me, and I kinda have to be there...So she is going to try and make it for the shower before or after the wedding, adn I think she is skipping out on the bachelorette party, which is fine, I can only handle so much of her..

@ T&J the way I handled it was if someone insisted then they had to plan it. If I had to plan it then all bets were off lol

Me and FH are skipping these too. Luckily no one has even mentioned them to us either though, so that is good.

I will be having a hen party though (a year or so from now Smiley smile )
