Anyone else have a cat that tries to "eat" your engagement ring??

mlw, on May 29, 2016 at 11:47 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

I don't know what is up with him lately, but he is constantly trying to naw on it. I'm not sure whether I should chuckle or worry he might actually loosen it.... :\

    One of mine has been all over it lately. I have had it since February but she must have just found it last week. I try to distract her when she starts so that it doesn't become a habit!

    My cat loves my ering. He's constantly trying to get to it on my finger. I keep it in the box when it's not on so he won't mess with it

    Yes, your cat will definitely loosen the stone. And then swallow it.

    Gnaw*. Just fyi. But no, mine doesn't try to eat it. Well, not intentionally at least. He'll rub his face on my hand, like they do to put their scent on books you're trying to read, laptops you're trying to type on, basically anything you're trying to utilize?... anyways, he'll rub his face on my hand and for some goofy reason, my ring ends up pulling the corner of his mouth back and sometimes goes under the lip. It's silly, stupid, and adorable all rolled into one. I'm such a sucker for my little furball.

    My bird used to chew on my jewelry (lovingly) until she popped a pearl off of a ring and nearly swallowed it! Scared me so much!!! I got very serious about making sure she doesn't have that temptation with other rings and turn the stone under toward my palm when she perches on me. Animals can most definitely bite hard enough to loosen your stone!

    One of mine will gnaw on my hand, but has left the ring alone so far. But when FH proposed, he said he had the ring hidden for months, and the cats kept finding and playing with the ring box.

    My cat had tried to grab at it with her little claws when I first got it but she leaves it alone now. I feel like there must have been some reflective light she was picking up on that people can't see that was attracting her to it. I just shoed her away each time and now she knows that its not for her and doesn't bother with it anymore.

    Mine tried at first, it was so cute I would usually let them start to nibble but then stop it because I didn't want to take the risk. Now they still sometimes like to rub their faces against the ring once in a while but I don't think there's any risk there and it's also super cute.

    Can I get a NWR preface or something since there wasn't really a question here. This is supposed to be a forum about weddings not cats.

    Possum, even without NWR in it the title was pretty clear. You chose to open the thread anyway, no need to be rude.

    Not really surprising since animals are generally attracted to shiny things?

    What a pointless thread.

    Yeah really possum. I don't necessarily get along with Mrs. Wade but it was clearly not wedding related lol.

    Our dog has tried to bite the center stone a few times when I'm wearing my ring. Glad to see I'm not alone!

    My oldest, Luna, does. Then again, she claims DF as her property, and tries to get between us to keep me away from him. -_-;

    If cats are chewing on objects (plastic, wood, etc) it usually means there is a deficit in their diet
